M – to adore/ crazy about somethingI was drawn to Me Phoby the simplicity and picturesque menu. The tiny little place locates in the heart of Kogarah, where most of its diners are office and healthcare workers. My love, at first sight, was the giant pho pot, which could be easily spotted by almost everyone who walked past. Wooden tables, colourful chairs, classic Siracha sauce on the shelves, and neon lights created a cozy and nostalgic feeling of Saigon. My super special beef pho (brisket, flank, meat balls, tripe, & tender meat tops) was served in a giant rustic bowl. At last, I found a pho bowl with the genuine broth, balanced, rich, and not too sweet. If you fancy a pho dipping sauce, head to the counter nearby to make your own ‘nuoc cham’ combination: half hoisin sauce, half chilli sauce, some ‘sa te’ or chilly oil, and a tiny squeeze of lemon. Let’s not delve into the discussion of msg content in pre-made sauces, shall we?My partner had the beef and spring roll vermicelli, bun thit bo & cha gio. The beef had a flavourful and smoky caramel texture after we watched in awe when the chef skilfully tossed it in the exploded flame. The fresh herbs and spring rolls brought out a good ‘bun’ or vermicelli salad. We also tried out the lychee green tea drink, which was really refreshing.Though Me Pho focuses only on ‘pho’, rice, vermicelli salad, with my humble opinion, I would say this is a hidden gem with great food quality and cozy environment. The owner hospitality is second-to-none.

I liked the rice noodles at this restaurant, they were thicker than the normal but great texture. Broth was flavoursome and meat nice and tender. For the price of the standard beef noodle soup, you could get special beef noodle soup at other stores.
