Pino’s Dolce Vita is known for their authentic Italian food that offers a large selection of hand made small goods, meat and Italian groceries. The dining experience was quite unique and the food was fresh – you could taste the difference in quality meat vs. meat from supermarkets etc. We began with the antipasto board followed by the rich Gnocchi Ragu, a side and salad topped with a delicious selection of meat from PDV! The antipasto board had a selection of salumi, cheese, olives, pickles, eggplant and ciabatta – all served with the finest ingredients. The Gnocchi Ragu was soft as a pillow and the ragu stuck to, and completely coated each gnocchi. The flavour of the sauce was quite subtle but the shaved parmesan added the savory note. We also had a fresh salad and sauteed garlic broccoli to go with the dry aged piece of delicious meat which was hand selected and cooked by team PDV.
A quality Italian butcher/deli serving food and coffee. At first I notice that it is a big open space, you are met with the butchers display case filled with quality cuts, I then took in the cured meats and also noticed a big room filled with curing meats. If you like meat you will be like a kid in a candy store. Selling all sorts of sausage varieties, I will be coming here next time I have a BBQ. This time I was heading back from a surf down the coast. I was in a bit of a hurry, so I ordered a salami panini and a coffee. The coffee was ok and the panini was nice with the Salami being of good quality. Browsing the menu while waiting there were a few options that sparked my intrest, the main being Italian sausage with eggs and sour dough. There were also some lunch options that I will be back to try. If you like meat you have got to check this place out. Although a little pricey, the quality is there.
In a climate controlled, glass-walled room hang dozens of prosciutto with other curing meats, ribs, sausages and even red chillies tucked in amongst a forest of deliciousness. Pretty much all the meats are butchered and manufactured onsite; down to the adorable grape-sized meatballs to toss into soups.
If you are in a rush don’t visit. I went last week and didn’t receive my food until a hour after ordering. Lovely food, but wouldn’t go if i was in a rush! Lovely food, lovely place.
This month I’ve been spending time exploring life’s carnal pleasures… I took a trip out to Kogarah to ogle Pino Tomini Foresti’s new traditional cooking school, added on to his existing family butchery Pino’s Dolce Vita . It’s a pretty impressive venture, complete with a glass-fronted cool room filled with rows of hanging prosciutto, and a long communal table where students will enjoy the fruits of their labour in true Italian family style. If cooking sounds too much like hard work, you’re also able to ease into a large, comfortable chair and enjoy his salume with a glass of wine. I stocked up on a great Taralga Springs porterhouse and countless sausages from his range (which numbers over one hundred) while I was there. Classes start in April. http://www.pinosdolcevita.com.au I also made my way to La Rosa Bar and Pizza as a guest of PorkStars and Australian Pork ( http://www.australianpork.com.au ). It was a wild n
