Went there today and I’m not sure how things could’ve been any worse. Table of three; all three of us were at some point given something we didn’t order. How can any reputable establishment be this bad at entering orders into the system and then bringing the orders to the table? It’s not like we asked them to build a hadron collider or anything crazy like that – the simple smashed avo that appears on the menu but strangely not at our table would’ve been fine.
Picked up a takeaway soy hot chocolate ($4.50) from here to take into Berkoleuw. Delicious hot chocolate – I would reccomend it! This place also has a nice variety of sweets and serves brekky & lunch & serves Campos coffee too.
Went here for a quick bite after a movie and was unimpressed. Ordered a chicken and mushroom filo which had a mushy interior resembling neither chicken nor mushroom in appearance or taste. Wrapped inside a rather dry pastry it was mediocre.
This place is always busy & buzzy & a great place on a nice sunny day especially if you have dogs or children as the entire cafe is street side and outdoors. There are the classics for breakfast, lots of paninis & pastries in the display cabinet for lunch but my favourite & excitement came from these Oregano bakery scrolls! Get in quick & early before they run out. There are lots of little treats for little tummies & they do a good strong coffee too using Campos beans.
I would so love to love this place – but it unfortunately just doesn’t live up to it’s potential.I have had a couple of bad experiences here.Below average food & not great service, I keep going back in the hope that it may be under new management or something has miraculously improved.I received an incomplete order yesterday & asked where the side dishes were. The waitress took the meal back & someone else came out & said ‘What’s the problem?’ I said it’s incomplete & doesn’t have the sides. He told me I was ‘Confused’ and hadn’t ordered correctly ? But would fix it anyway. So, instead of cooking a fresh meal, they took that meal ( Poached Eggs ! ) and then half cooked the haloumi & tomatoes and then served me a half cooked, half cold meal. I couldn’t be bothered complaining a second time as It was somehow my fault according to them.Never again.
Perfect spot for a bit of early morning sun, coffee & breakfast. Food isn’t mind blowing, but simple and reliable. Staff is okay but you do have to go and order yourself – no table service. Also a bit of a lack of newspapers which was disappointing! Coffee is Campos which isn’t my fav – but other people seem to enjoy… I wouldn’t go out of my way to return. But it’s one of the few early morning cafes in Leichhardt so a good to go if you need something quick.
A warm blanket. Berkelouw is a beloved local caf. Pretty much any time of the day, the sidewalk will be crowded by the denizens of Leichhardt, plus a few visitors drawn by thebookshop or the cinema. The coffee is good and the apple strudel is a heaping plate of deliciousness.
