Croissants and danish when eaten straight from the shop were chewy and oily, typical texture of stale pastry. Toasted it was much better but lacked depth of flavour and the buttery flakey goodness youd expect from a croissant. In comparison to its lack of flavour, I felt like it was very oily. The outer layer was still chewy. Maybe because I visited in the afternoon around 2:30pm? Service wise the person who served me wasnt rude but very cold. Regardless it was still good, although I wouldnt say its the best croissant in Sydney as many reviews say. I would visit again to try their ham and provolone.
The creme brulee tart was really good, the crust was a bit burnt but the custard was done very well. The only drawback would be I think they dont bake their stuff fresh. I passed by a couple days in a row and they had the same leftovers from when I first bought my tart. Also there were flies hovering over the pastries and the staff were usually nowhere to be found and would only come out after the bell sounds when a customer enters.
SO GOOOOD! I cannot describe how good the pastries are!Got the ham croissant and the creme brulee tart. The creme brulee tart is outta this world! Tart is flaky, the thin cramalised crystals on the surface is as fragile as glass The filling as smooth as silk. It’s also not overly sweet which I love. YUM YUM YUMMMMM. Ham croissant wasn’t too bad either. It was a little cold when I had it but still tasted good. The creme brulee tart stole my heart
Such a cute bakery which has own character and soul! Sincere, friendly service! As for croissant, I cant say it is the best in Sydney but pretty close! Solid good. But creme brle tart was another level! Oh my god level! It was delicious, delicate, delightful tart! I like it as it is but maybe try it with less sugar, then I can eat it everyday? I would tell to the ladies:) cant wait to try other baked goods already:))
Delicious sourdough !! Can’t wait to go get another !! Better than Sonoma and I would buy it weekly if I had the time to stop !! Also had date Creme brle – delicious ! And mini lemon meringue:) yummy
If you walk too fast, you might miss this quiet, unassuming place. Walk in (make sure you are early) and you often see a delicious array of sweet treats, freshly baked croissants and bread but no one in sight. Don’t be alarmed by the lack of people as those in the know get in quick and things sell out quickly. The classic croissant is one of the best I have had in Sydney. Light, flakey, buttery with distinct layers when you bite into it. Similarly, the almond croissant is amazing byt sweeter. From the sweet treats, my favourite is the date creme brulee tart which last time ran out at 10am! Also love the lemon meringue which is one mouthful bursting with delight. It is hard to take home as the beautiful meringue peaks will be stuck to the paper bag. The frangipane tarts are classic, buttery & delicious and the chocolate ganache tart quite rich. All the tart bases are very short, buttery & rich, which is why they are delicious! The brioche / sticky bun filled with mascarpone sounded amazing but was my least favourite although it was nice. The breads are also nice too with a good chew & not overly heavy for a sourdough. We couldnt wait to tuck into the treats right outside the door before heading somewhere to sit so didn’t even get a chance to take photos!
Penny Fours deserves a place in the Sydney food cult scene, and i am always amazed that it hasn’t been discovered yet. The creme brle tart and the salted macadamia tart are so good you’ll weep and come back for more. The croissants are amazing – flaky buttery goodness. And odd layout to the store might be part of the reason that this place is stillUnknown, especially when mid week you enter to find no staff or cakes in sight – the key is to walk to the back wall and order through the window to the bakery (owners: a quirky funny sign up front with instructions would help). Please eat everything here you won’t be sorry).
