5 stars for ambience and atmosphere. Located on the side of Leura train station, this old style pub/hotel is a lovely find. There are two bars through the hotel, one just equipped with wines and another one with your spirits and beers. The menu choice is not the same as the one on this page, its a limited page but nonetheless tasty. The pan fried barramundi is delicious as is the squid with garden vegetables.

Our first day in Leura, hubby wanted a steak for dinner.We thought wed give this hotel a try. A little short on ambiance. Hubby ordered a med-rare New York cut steak with chips and veges, and I ordered pan fried salmon (medium) with veges and mash.The steak was cooked perfectly, however my salmon was overcooked. The veges (broccoli, capsicum, zucchini) were cooked well: crunchy.I probably wouldnt go back in a hurry…
It’s been a yr since I last was in Leura but I still remember the pub food.After a hard day of taking the family around the sites of the blue mts I came by the Alexander pub for a quite beer. I ended up drinking ‘Hillbilly cider’ made from blue mts apples and the taste was crisp and fruity.For takeaway for the family I ordered 2 chicken n bacon burgers with fries and chicken nuggets for the kids. The staff were very friendly and even gave a free desert (green jelly) is memory serves me right.The food took about 20m to cook which gave me time to unwind and enjoy an ice cold cider. Overall the food portions were great and very filling.Will stop by again in future
Had lunch there today with wife and good friends. As usual, the food at the Alex was delicious – both the mains and desert. They also have a good solid assortment of beers and wines. I had the Mudgee Porter – yum. The Alex is a good pub, with good food. You must visit them. Ask for Jane (the owner) and she’ll sort you out for a great meal and drinks.
Great hearty pub food. The burger, schnitzel, pot pie and fish & chips were all delicious. And the pub itself is delightful too. Meals are enormous, so bring an appetite
Smashing :(. What sort of pub does not have mash? So upsetting. Paper tablecloths made it feels like we were 4 years old, and needed crayons to distract us from being naughty. I had a chicken schnitzel, and I am pretty sure it was from a frozen packet. The chips were cold, and i dint really like the sale drenched in mayonnaise. My sister had the sirloin steak, ($30) and asked for it to be medium-well done. It was definantly rare, which upset her as rare steak makes her sick. But back to the real issue. No mash potato. I am a classic chicken schnitzel and mash kind of girl, and I don’t mind some funky variations. But this was too far. $20 for an oven meal schnitzel, cold chips and a mayo salad? no thanks. I would rather go somewhere that I know can actually claim to have decent pub food.
