the Blue Mountains are amazing, you can spend days there to hike and walk but after all of this you will deserve to treat yourself and if you go there when it is a bit cold or cloudy you will crave for teas and scones. So the best idea is to go to the home of worlds largest private collection of tea wares and enjoy one of their original teas. And I will totally advice to add some scones because they are really tasty and the Jam and the cream on the top of them will make you feel like in your Grandmas house.
Nice place to stop in for a cup of tea and a plate of sandwiches. Not a wide selection of food. Lots of little tables. The museum is kinda neat and the place is decorated with more teapots than you can imagine exist.
We went this afternoon for High Tea. The setting is quite kitsch, as you would imagine, and was furthered by the fact that our server came out in a top hat and tails to serve our tea- with ‘Rule Britannia’ blasting to boot! That was a bit embarrassing, to be honest, and the obvious humiliation of our server was a bit painful, too. The house tea itself was good and the coffee strong, but nice. The sandwiches were small and a bit sad, the selection of desserts varied, but also small in size. Some of the desserts were great (the spice cake- yum!), but others were cheap and way too sugary. The scones scored an OK, but, again, were tiny. Overall, food was paltry and of poor quality, certainly a shadow of what you would actually get in the UK, not to mention, in the UK food is replenished upon request- not so here! In conclusion, pass, hard pass.
Lovely experience. Scones were pleasant but floury, and cheese melt was generous, but bread was just a little bit tooo thick to digest easily. My companion thought the English breakfast tea was nice, but considering the surrounds, a functioning teapot would have been a thoughtful addition.
Had a great visit for a ladies high tea . The food and tea were really lovely – you could tell that everything was made with great care and attention. Our waiter, Jason, was so lovely. It is a shame that my visit was during the renovation, but I’d still recommend going if you’re in the area. Maybe give them a call before coming in and see where they’re at with the renovation beforehand.
Over-priced, over-decorated, even the cream is over-whipped. The scones I will admit are delicious but served with jam from the supermarket. For this price, it needs to be home or locally-made jam and clotted cream.
High tea for Two at Bygone Beautys was disappointing. High Tea is delivered to the table silver service style on a trolley decked out with British flags with music playing on a hidden stereo beneath (all quite tacky and embarrassing for waitress and clients!). The ham and mustard sandwiches were thickly plastered with mustard and cucumber sandwiches were filled with something that could only be described as going off! Cupcakes were stale and sweet options felt like something you’d get at a kids birthday party. The scones were the only saving item. Save yourself the $69.50 and choose the Devonshire Tea or choose another more appealing establishment in Leura.
