Butter chicken was very sweet and the coconut spicy lamb was definitely spicey. Really small serving sizes for high prices. Each of the garlic, butter and cheese naan breads were the stand out! As well as the very polite staff.
Went here 1yr ago and I still think highly of my experience there. As most of Leura is closed after 5-6pm I was glad to see some resturants still open till late. The ambiance was nice, there were many ppl inside. I did a takeaway of – Chicken Tikka Masala (medium) and Garlic naans for 2. I was very pleased and will drop by again on my annual visit to the blue mts.
dont know if these guys have changed chef’s but they arent any good anymore, we are local & used to enjoy it but prices have gone up & up… $70 for 3 main dishes and 2 rice! the butter chicken had 6 minuscule pieces of chicken in it & lots of sauce, it didnt taste too bad but the lamb rogan josh was so hot it burnt your mouth, also had great chunks of crunchy onion & whole garlic cloves!!!! eeek when you get a full mouthful of this…..overpriced & tiny servings, not really worth your money.
I suspect the usual clientele for Tamarin is Indian tour groups visiting the mountains. The food is ok. The toilets (which are shared by all the businesses in the building) are disgusting, putrid and broken
Conveniently located in Leura, Tamarin was a very pleasant experience for my partner and I. To sum it up, the portions are very generous and the food is very tasty. The butter chicken was very succulent and the sauce was the perfect combination of sweet but not overly so. My butter prawns were presented in an incredibly saucy, mildly sweet sauce, and the prawns were fresh and generous in quantity. The naan bread was light and not dense and the entree tandoori chicken was full of flavour. Very good all round.
This is a nice Indian restaurant which is about 20 minutes drive from the scenic world. We were really tired after our scenic world experience and wanted some good Indian food since it was very late (around 2.30pm). Thanks to our tour guide who took us here! The restaurant was pretty big with nice interiors. There were no body in the restaurant when we entered, which left us wondering if there’ll be food available at this hour! The hotel staff welcomed us with a smile and got us seated. We ordered rotis, veg and non-veg curries and some toor dal tadka for the kids. The dal was pretty average and the non-veg curry was bland. But the vegetarian curry was pretty good; so were the rotis. We also liked the raitha. We were still hungry, but didn’t want to order any roti or rice, hence asked if they could get us a tandoori chicken pretty quickly. The staff said he would check how fast he can get and promised to bring it in 10 minutes. We were anxiously waiting for the chicken to arrive. As promised, the chicken was on our table in 10 minutes and it tasted good…! Though the taste is not exceptional, this is definitely a good place for tourists who want to get some good Indian food. The best part is the cost, which is very reasonable to Australian standards. Overall, we were satisfied with the food, service and of course the bill!
Excellent curry – Malai Kofter is perfect. Dahl Macni is a great dry savoury curry. The service is great – very respectful and welcoming. Worth the money. Glad we came here – will return again next time we are in Katoomba
