This is a fantastic addition to the dining options in Marrickville and Dulwich Hill – after local favourites Blancmange and the General closed (or closed for Dinner in the General’s case), there haven’t been many mid priced dinner options if you wanted a change from Vietnamese. I visited on a Thursday night and took advantage of Sidecar’s $38 special with free corkage. I picked up a bottle of Australian wine from Bucket Boys, had a delicious dinner at Sidecar, then retired to Gasoline Pony for some additional refreshing beverages. At that price it was an absolute bargain – and with a small, regularly changing menu it’s somewhere you can visit multiple times. The food was excellent (huge portions, especially the lamb), and even without the weeknight special you’re still only paying slightly more than pub prices for mains. The service was great too – friendly and endearing, we really felt welcome.I am really looking forward to returning – it’s a great night out close to home, especially combined with the increasing number of small bars in the area.
Such a cute place with atmosphere and great new option for dining in Marrickville. Being a vegetarian with a meat eating partner Sidecar caters to us both with great meals. Thankyou!
A very welcome addition to the Marrickville dining scene. Fresh interesting food at reasonable prices. lots of vego / gluten free options if that is you thing. Its BYO too, which helps keep hip-pocket costs down. Nice cosy vibe and friendly staff. It’s run by the team from Gasoline Pony bar next door, so it has a bit that boho, rock’n’roll thing that Marrickville does so well. We popped in to the Pony after dinner to catch a band and have a few cleansing ales. As you do.
