Almost 4 stars!I decided to take my mum out to dinner to a local restaurant I’ve been wanting to try for years, Basil’s Seafood Restaurant. We wanted to go all-out on this particular evening – entrees, mains, dessert, wine & cocktails! For our starters, we both went for the King Prawn Salad which was served with something that was very similar to a guacamole – it was tasty, fresh & lathered in seafood sauce (which I personally loved!)For the main course, I had the Chicken Supreme (I believe that is what it was called, the menu on their website was different to the one we received at the restaurant), served with a sweet potato mash & a creamy seeded mustard sauce. My mum opted for the special of the evening, Linguini Marinara. Both mains were plentiful & thoroughly enjoyed, my chicken was perfectly cooked, incredibly juicy. The Linguini was overflowing with seafood & had a beautiful, rich tomato flavour – it was the highlight of the evening for my mum!For dessert we shared Basil’s warm chocolate pudding accompanied by vanilla ice cream & some sort of floss. We also grabbed a cocktail each, a Whisky Sour & an old-school favourite of my mums – a Brandy Alexander. The dessert was a bit lackluster, it was ‘nice’ but I wouldn’t order it again. My mum LOVED the Brandy Alexander, but the Whisky Sour didn’t taste quite right, I did not enjoy it at all.Overall the service was good, our waitress was attentive & kind. The decor is very outdated but the restaurant has a lot of potential, I would love to see it modernized. Do I think my experience on this particular evening was truly worth the money I forked out? No. Would I come back again? Perhaps! I would like to try more on the menu.Within saying all of that – Basil’s will always hold a special place in the hearts of my family, who used to dine here together almost 30 years ago, long before my time.

We went for dinner last night after a long day at the office. Yes, the decor is a little dated but the table cloths are a lovely touch, and the chairs are very comfortable. The restrooms were spotless and had quirky lockers in them with engraved plaques on each one. The service was attentive, friendly and quite frankly really good. The food was lovely. It wasn’t pretentious, and it wasn’t amazing, but it was of high quality. We both had the scallops for entree, and they were lovely. While the wine list is small, the waiter made a suggestion of wine not on the list which was wonderful. At the end of the meal, we booked a cab which failed to show. It was about 9:45 pm, and it would have been a long walk back to our hotel. Our waiter concerned at this situation drove us back to the hotel himself! We were amazed by this level of service. It may be old school but so is their service and there is something really nice about that. Personalised and attentive service can be lacking in more modern decorated restaurants!

This establishment has got to be one of the oldest remaining restaurants around the Macquarie area. Unfortunately, it has also past its prime with the dining experience not as fantastic as it was years ago. Having said that, there are still remnants of what use to be – Pleasant and attentive service, short but adequate wine list, nice ambience. Food was so-so, had the scallops entree, lobster mornay for main, and the panacotta for desert which were all perfectly edible, but nothing memorable. Was a tad disappointed in my recent visit as I would have loved to like this place.

use to come here when my partner lived in marsfield and it was pretty good although the quality slowly diminished over time (like with most restos). love the seafood (tbf it is a seafood resto) but the steak is also very well cooked and tender.

Went with a crowd two weeks ago and had a set menu from which to choose a selection from each course. I chose well. The calamari was the standout entree – look at the photo!!!! YUM!! (others were disappointed with the scallops). For main, the salmon – fair, not great. I had read the negative reviews so was a bit worried but my food selections were not disappointing at all.

Absolutely dissatisfied. After going to this restaurant for 15 years and receiving warm, welcome, friendly faces this is no more. Terrible menu. Terrible staff. Not one helpful waiter. Absolute disaster. Not willing to change slight little things in the menu and not receiving what we ordered this is not our favourite place away from home. They are only there because of loyal friends who used to dine there. They have a long way to go. Our very best to the previous owners. We wish them all the best. They were wonderful. We will not be going there again.

Seems it’s been a while since anybody has written a review which I should have been wary of. Food dreadful service ok, but an extremely long wait for our meal. Seriously I could have had a nice meal at the Sydney fish markets.
