A local favourite for us. The Mary Ellen has a good selection of the usual pub favourites plus a couple of specials. They mid week specials are great value. The dining room can be noisy when it’s full. The bar is our preferred area to sit. There’s an excellent selection of beers on tap and a good wine list, too. They always have great, freiendly service.
Bit inconsistent, service and food. If you stick with basics schnitzel and such pretty good. That being said we did have braised lamb shank that was lovely with kumera purée and cauliflower. Pretty much order at the counter and food served. Management did help when we weren’t happy, dinner was recooked rather than finished taking less time. Maybe buy that one for us, as it finished cooking so we would have our meal sooner. More like they cared to sell something rather than us being happy. That bring said we will go back. The atmosphere is nice and we get the setting, lamb and schnitzel are great, and the people are nice.
