We had a girly catch up here and the view is stunning. We booked a while ago, and since then they’ve completely changed the menu and it’s now an Italian inspired menu. A fair array of starters like Arancini, zucchini flowers, breads and calamari. The mains had pizzas, pastas and a few other options like fish. My salmon was superb! I would recommend adding a few more healthy options. For someone health conscious like myself, there were limited choices – add a few salads, steak or chicken with veg as an option. The cocktail menu is excellent. There were some great staff, but one of ours really needs a lot of training. She had little initiative or eloquent way of expressing things and certainly undersold your menu. A few minor things to fix up in what is a great venue.
As recent Newcastle-Sydney transplant I often recommend people I work with go up to Newcastle for the weekend and inevitably they ask for recommendations for things to do and places to eat. My response is almost always going to consist of (among other things) walking along the beaches and a long lunch at Merewether Surfhouse.Personally it’s a favourite for special occasions – birthdays, work functions etc. The food is usually close to perfection. Last time the pork chop was a little overcooked but everything else was great and the kingfish ceviche with curry leaves was probably one of the best seafood dishes and one of the best entrees I’ve ever had. I’d eat it every day if I could. The great food is only outshines by the view which must be one of the best of any restaurant in the world. The waitstaff are usually very friendly however a little inattentive on occasion. Often has to ask to reorder drinks and when doing so they didn’t offer drinks to anyone else at the table. Bar staff were also argumentative after being told they had an order wrong. (Jameson and Makers Mark are not the same thing) but otherwise it’s consistently enjoyable.
The location makes this place a winner before you even sit down. The design of the restaurant makes excellent user of the spectacular cean views.I had flathead with chips. Simple meal and the fish was fresh.A nice NZ white washed it down. The waitress was attentive and helpful.I’ll be back!
Love this place – always fresh and service pretty quick. Cafe downstairs do amazing breakfast – always incredibly busy but never disappoints.
Breakfast was appalling. Poached eggs cold, service very hit and miss. Meals for 6 delivered to table in half hour intervals. What a shame, great location.
