This was my first time trying faloodeh, a popular Persian dessert made of frozen rice vermicelli in syrup. At Shiraz, they serve it with saffron ice-cream. It’s certainly not your average sundae, but I found the mix of flavours and textures to be very refreshing. Great option to beat the summer heat! We also had the cream puffs and Swiss roll. Loved the puffs which were filled with a slightly sweet cream but the roll was unremarkable. We also had some black tea to wash the sweets down. Instead of normal sugar, the tea is served with saffron sugar sticks which you stir into the hot tea. As the sugar melts, the saffron imparts it’s distinctive flavours into the drink giving it an exotic twist. Shiraz is not a fancy place but service is friendly and we enjoyed the food.
Delicious and authentic Persian desserts (particularly the ice-cream and Sholeh-zard), sweets and pastries and to-die-for Persian Aash (Soup) and Haleem (Porridge). The service is great and the prices are fair and affordable. This is one of the best places for an authentic taste of a variety of Persian food and desserts.
