Great Sri Lankan and Nepalese food by a friendly family. Delicious lamprais or ‘lump rice’ available on Fridays, tasty flavoured rice with your choice of meat curry, fried fish ball, fried boiled egg, eggplant curry, potato and caramelised onion – all wrapped up in a banana leaf! Also love the snacks, the fish bun is delicious, also love the different wada, and little fish and egg filled curry puffs! Good deal for a meal as well, two curries (one meat) and rice for $10! They also do roti if rice isn’t your thing. They have a few meat curries and some really interesting veg curries, like radish curry or beetroot curry among others. Hidden gem in Mortdale, give it a go! You can also do a little shop at the Nepalese grocer around the corner while you’re there 🙂

This is a new restaurant that has recently opened on the Main Shopping Strip of Mortdale. They have a Bain Marie set up at the front of the store with pre-prepared curries, samosas etc for a quick meal, which seems very popular with the passing commuters coming home from work. The chef/owner took time to explain some of the different dishes and our options. He explained the extensive menu upon opening was currently being revised and the crosses beside certain dishes were not currently available. There was still plenty to chose from.As we sat down they brought out puppadums with an accompanying mint yogurt dip. For an entree we decided to try the Chicken Momo which is a steamed chicken dumpling served with an accompanying cold curry dipping sauce. We were surprised the chicken filling was quite spicy too. Very tasty and a great starter I would certainly have again. We couldn’t go past the Butter Chicken and the Goat Curry sounded interesting too. So with 2 roti and a bowl of rice we were done. The Goat curry was amazingly tasty and a medium spice. The bones were a bit annoying but still a great rich spicy curry that gave me a nice glow. The butter chicken was aromatic and tasty. The roti were huge and we should of just ordered one in hindsight. We left absolutely full and for just over $47, it was great value for money. We will definitely get curries to go from the Bain Marie for a lazy nights dinner.
