Now renamed Kitami Izakaya, the Red Baron still has peaks of its original decor peeking through the kimonos that line the walls. We arrived one Saturday evening as a group of 4 to a half empty restaurant. Our waitress had blatantly said that there was no availability despite there being quite visibly, many available tables including an empty table for 6. She then spoke to her manager who said that table is only to accommodate big groups as the night goes on. Some patrons kindly offered us their seating as they were finishing later on. So far we weren’t off to a good start. The menu was quite pricy for the food and as it arrived our sashimi wasn’t very fresh and the karaage was limp and lifeless. With a huge bill, less than ordinary food and appealing service. It’s not an izakaya that I would come back to soon.
