We came by to Belly Bao for a quick eat before heading home after a night out in Newtown. We ordered the vegan cheese toastie and eggplant baoger. The toastie for $8 was a little bit tiny, but my goodness was it absolutely delicious! There was garlic, a hint of chilli, and a whole lot of oozy vegan cheese. The baoger was such an interesting item on the menu. The burger was was made with the same material as bao is made. The buns were so so soft and delicious. The filling features crispy eggplant, and pickled cucumber with lettuce. This was so incredibly delicious, and made even better with a couple of drops of the sriracha.I loved the ambiance on the inside – the restaurant is super intimate and warm, and I loved the wooden decor throughout. Service is really friendly and speed too. My only downside is the small serving portions. theminiaturelife.com
Beef Short Rib Bao : GreatSpicy Bao Noodles : Amazing Small, cozy restaurant located on a busy street in Newtown, Belly Bao definitely takes the twist on traditional Asian food. They have various Bao stuffings and even Bao burgers (baogers). My beef Bao was delicious. The meat was perfectly cooked and the flavour combination worked. The Spicy Bao Noodles is something that I would go back for. I actually love chewy noodles, and this dish was literally all that. The spice level was good and the flavour was addicting. Youll have to try it to know what I mean. The bar is extensive and they have so many unique cocktails and mocktails to choose from. Definitely worth a visit back.
3.5! Good service and nice food. Usually busy so bookings are recommended if you dont want to get stuck at the bar. The beverage range huge. They also offer HIBIKI, which I recommend for those whisky lover. You will not regret it! Overall the Beef Short Rib Bao was okay, nothing too spectacular or bursting with flavour. The spicy bao noodles were delicious and sure had a spice to it. The noodles were very oily, way more than necessary, but I guess thats where the spice comes from.
Came across this place strolling in Newtown and decided to give it a try and orderedthe tofu bao and one of the vegetarian noodles.Baos were delicious, full of flavor, I guess $7 for two a few months back and the noodles were 12$.Good enoughfor two people if you’re not very hungry.
Am I missing something? Not too sure why theres such a big hype over these. The baos were quite mediocre and extremely small. None had a good punch of flavour and were quite unimaginative and plain. I was extremely hungry afterwards as well! It seems like theyve expanded their menu with heaps of other items so maybe Ill give them a try again if Im feeling brave.
This place is a must-visit for everyone! The food is mouth-watering. We ate the baos-little pillows from heaven (crab, pork and chicken), the spicy bao noodles, fried chicken and the curry cheese fries. Couldn’t find a single fault with any of these food items. Also, the prices are extremely reasonable. Highly recommend this place! PS: they also have on table the huy fong sriracha hot chili sauce which is amazing!!!
We ordered the pork belly and crackling bao, beef bao, and crab bao. My favourite was the pork crackling bao, so much flavour and loved the crunchy crackling for texture! The crab bao was yum and had some truffle in it, and the beef was nice but not as good as the others. We also ordered a very strange cocktail jug which had green ball things in it, probably best to stick to beer/wine!
