Bloodwood is one of the restaurants of the moment in Newtown and was already heaving with diners when my party of four arrived at 7pm last Saturday evening but we secured a table immediately by promising to be gone by 8.30pm,We decided to share some plates and, following several selections, the waitress encouraged us to add one more. Just as well as the servings are small; even the mains are not really enough for one person but they were delicious.For example, the roasted prawns in miso butter only provided three prawns despite costing over $20 and we took the option to add one more prawn so everyone got one. Other selections included a marinated kingfish, a delightful pork dish and kipfler potatoes (slightly under-cooked).There are plenty of locally brewed beers on the drinks menu, as you would expect in the Inner West, with my beer drinking companions downing a few cans of Newtowner and a delightful, light Italian red from the wine list.Despite the time restriction, we had time for dessert but chose to forgo it on this occasion because we had all had enough, despite the small portions. The bill came to around $260 for four and another great thing about this location is it is just a short step to the wine bars and lively scene of Enmore Road.
