Love the cozy vibe and friendly staff. The cheese toast and iced latte I ordered are also great. But I really hope they will ask for more food options…

Every barista I know raves about this place. I am now one of those baristas! :DHandcraft is a place for people who are obsessed with coffee and want to be amongst similar company. They have a food menu, but it’s more to complement their coffee experience rather than to satisfy a big appetite. Their coffee menu is much bigger, offering seasonal blends and guest roasters. I imagine most people just come for the coffee.Tried Primary Coffee’s Honduras (Cinnamon and Pear). Very subtle and delicious. It is too easy to sit there all day just drinking coffee and doing not much else really. They also sell whole beans and merchandise too. That day I walked out with a new cup and an expensive but delicious Geisha blend. kerabeareats.com

Stop by about 3 mornings a week n grab a takeaway double shot flat white, which is always strong, hot n cheap. Cheaper than most along King St. Sometimes I will alsoget a smoked ham, cheese tomato toasty. It is a very satisfying sanga, particularly when lightly toasted. The caff is right behind a bus stop and can get noisy with peak hour. The laptop brigade mostly come from nearby Moore Theological College, strongly conservative Anglican, so that’s def unusual for Newtown. Staff are a reasonably intense and efficient crew of South Korean and Japanese and their coffee love shows, but they do enjoy a ciggie, perched on the window ledge of the TCM clinic a coupla doors down. Now and again u can celebrity spot. I’ve seen Sydney art/media crowd portraitist Nick Harding, sometime journo David Marr and local identity Big Wal there over the months. Anyhow, give it a go, you’ll like it.
An interesting cafe obviously obsessed with specialty coffee and educating customers. Coffee ordered:Double espresso, a Colombian coffee this time. It was a well extracted, bright and juicy espresso. A little sharp for me as I prefer more berry and chocolate flavour profiles … but I wasn’t asked or offered other singles at the time. It was served in an espresso cup but it just fit the double, I would have preferred a small mug to swirl and cool the espresso. Ambience:Lots of people on laptops and from the looks of it just hanging out. Which is great and I think Newtown is the perfect place for that kind of atmosphere. Unfortunate for me I had to take a seat outside, which is not a great spot, windy and busy foot traffic make for an uninviting experience. Well if I were on a stroll down king st, which does happen often, I would stop in for a takeaway and am keen to try other brews.
Coffee by Proud Marry. This cute little cafe also serving a good chai latte, you can choose between loose leaf or bag. They have a decent size selection of cake and pastry too.On the table with your coffee, they give you a bottle of water with sprig of mint leaves to par fine the water.Nice touch.

This is my favorite place to sit for a bit with a friend or a book and some coffee. The staff is friendly and attentive, and they move SO FAST I can’t keep up. Cool atmosphere and cozy.
