Lou Jack’s was never fancy but was a bit of a standard-setter 20 years ago when it opened. Problem is, everyone else has improved since then and Lou Jack’s hasn’t. Service is woeful – staff take a very long time to take orders and a very long time to clear tables. Food is fairly normal (haloumi was rare 20 years ago but now it’s not enough on its own to make an interesting breakfast) but my eggs, bread and bacon were all undercooked. Prices may be slightly high for food considering the ordinary quality. The coffee though is an astonishing $4.30 – it’s rich and strong but a little bitter and that price is so far above the Newtown average that it would need to be the best coffee around to justify it.
