I was pleasantly surprised with the new vego/vegan options available. The tofu burger was surprisingly substantial the tofu patty was firm, crunchy and harmonising with the chilli sauce. The eggplant schnitzel was fail safe however the mash was quite lumpy and lukewarm. Although the boiled veggies made me feel less guilty, it did not provide me the guiltily pleasure I had hoped for.
Marly Kitchen have nightly specials and aside of this, their portion sizes of the usual pub fare are pretty well generous. Well trodden, Marly Bar and Marly Kitchen fall middle of the range pub wise, and at times the food can be good if you can handle the smell of the place. The vegetarian nachos do not lack on flavour, and are pretty heavy on cheese. The Korean Fried chicken moist and juicy, but doesnt hold much flavour outside of the dipping sauce. The marly burger nails all the internal elements making the bun a disappointing let down from the hardened crumbly texture – If you’ve got the beefy, tangy insides it’s milk bun or none. crumbs-au.com

I ordered the spiced lentil nachos for lunch, they were quite nice and came with guacamole + sour cream but they were noticably underseasoned and I had to add salt & pepper. I really do like that they offer this lentil version though, it shows some thought for vegetarians rather than just offer the same dish (beef nachos) without meat. $12 jug options including an apple cider & 2 different kinds of beers are also offered here as a sunday special. This place is well known for being a great place to down a drink (or three) in Newtown and after a few too many, you can also count on some solid pub food as well. With heaps of pub classics for both vegetarians and meat eaters alike, this isn’t a destination but it’s not a bad place to end up for dinner if you find yourself in the area and wondering what to eat. twogirlsonefork.com
Bland and Poor Value but Decent for Drinks. In short, the Marlborough Kitchen or the Marly isn’t something special other than a place for locals and university students. The prices are steep, the foods are generally underwhelming when not unsatisfactory, and the selection of items are limited; however, the inclusion of vegan and vegetarian options is a nice touch, perhaps to cater to a sizeable demographic of Newtown residents.The service at the Marlborough Kitchen is acceptable if not substellar and the ambience is atrocious, with the place packed with drunk, obnoxious, and roughhousing university students. In light of this, we would not recommend to our friends the Marlborough Kitchen. Such a shame because the place has potential.
