Came here for a week day lunch when the restaurant just opened so it was pretty quiet. We got a balcony seat. Ordered a variety of foods but a definite highlight was the beef brisket. It was a bit pricey at ~$30 but I would say definitely worth it, the best beef brisket I have tasted.
I don’t know what I love more!! The food, the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co sign on the wall or the fact that Miss Peaches offers swing dancing classes!! The staff are accommodating but we wish they had smiled more! I had the waffle burger… yes, you read that correctly, and the tater tots with bacon ketchup! For those missing the South or for those wanting a taste, the chef at Miss Peaches is dishing up some flavourful stuff!

This place is such a cool venue! It’s feels like you’ve gone back in time to a honky tonk bar in Texas, and they serve up some killer soul food. The vibe here is incredible. We went last night and there was a band playing, people swing dancing, and general joy as people chowed down on fried chicken. On the menu we had:Spicy fried chicken. Too spicy for me! It’s made with some of the hottest chili in the world and I could not handle it! But the chicken was good and the batter was nice!Mac n cheese. Omggggg. So perfectly creamy and cheesy and topped with crunchy bread crumbs. Winner winner chicken dinner yes. Philly cheese mini subs – omg yassss. So tender and cheesy and soft on brioche rolls. These were incredible. Bourbon peach tea – sweet and deadly!I will def be coming back here to work my way through more of the menu! Loved it!
As the weather gets colder and the desire to head out decreases, I was tempted by a night in and to make an order through Foodora. Scanning through my options, this caught my eye as it had biscuits and gravy as well as mac n cheese. Both very much side dish staples of southern US cuisine. With that in mind I quickly ordered and it was made and delivered in quick time. The delivery girl was super friendly. Decided on ordering a few things (bit of a pig out and leftovers are always good!). Biscuits And Creole Gravy was excellent. The biscuit (note singular and not more than one!) was large and fluffy. The accompanying gravy was lovely and perfect for dunking in. The Mac ‘N’ Cheese was nice but nothing extraordinary. Golden Creole Gumbo had nice chunks of chicken and andouille sausage. The stew was hearty and the braised rice soaked up the sauce. I also got some cornbread (another classic southern dish) to mop up more of that sauce.
Vibe is super cool, menu looks good too. Got a southern lemonade that was way way way too sour. Also got some beignets – first place I’ve found in Sydney to sell them since having them in New Orleans – however they were disappointing. Meant to come with a heap of icing sugar, didn’t have enough to even cover one of the three beignets. Smelt like they’d been fried in the same oil as savoury chicken wings or fries and the taste matched the weird smell. Would not recommend, had a couple of bites and left it.
Disclaimer: This is a long review soz, but I want both Americans and Aussies to get a good feel for how the food is at Miss Peaches. Sorry in advance for being a food snob. :)As an American now living permanently in Sydney, I was super excited for this place and anticipated trying out the menu. I mean a joint serving up all of the southern specialities like biscuits and gravy, shrimp and grits, collard greens, fried chicken, cornbread, etc. it’s really hard to not be stoked for this place. Unfortunately Miss Peaches did not deliver that smack of southern love and comfort I was looking for as a homesick American…as much as I wanted to love this place!Toasted Cornbread – The crunch straight away from being griddled on both sides is a nice alternative however what was disappointing was the flavor. I’ve had tons of cornbread both sweet or savory and if you are going to do a savory cornbread like this one, you better have good quality cornmeal. This wasn’t the case so I would suggest they make the more familiar sweet cornbread recipe augmented with some real sweet corn. Cornbread is supposed to be moist and moreish, served as a cube, and a perfect canvas for butter, however this cornbread was not. 2/5Mac and Cheese – Was shockingly close to Easy Mac in flavor, just not as orange and a bit blander to be honest. 2.5/5Biscuits and Gravy – The dark and rich Creole inspired gravy was definitely delicious; a nice alternative to the traditional creamy sausage white gravy on biscuits. The biscuit itself was very doughy, probably because the dough was overmixed and the cold butter pieces became too integrated into the dough. Also, the biscuit to gravy ratio was off; too much biscuit! Cut that sucker in half and pour a serving of gravy that my non-existent southern gramama would scold me for! 3.5/5Red bean and rice – This was the one I was most excited for, but sadly it had some flaws. Firstly, the beans themselves were severely undercooked. I’ve had both versions where the beans have been mashed or left whole and intact, but these beans were definitely underdone. 🙁 Red beans and rice should be saucy and savory with nice cubes of sausage throughout and should definitely not contain okra. It should smother the rice. Also the massively thick strands of green onions were clunky instead of sliced. 2/5Fried chicken – Quite bland honestly. You needed the gravy on the chicken otherwise on its own, the chicken lacked salt. 3/5I appreciate that this place exists; it’s a great place to have a drink and not to mention they stock an impressive selection of American craft beer. I would definitely come back to have a drink or two with some friends. However as far as the food is concerned, I would say it’s not that close to what the real dishes taste like and if you’re a homesick American, come in with lower expectations. Sadly the food is not the real deal.
