Oh so laid back, primarily, coffee shop on lower King Street. Like an old-fashioned den/library. I had a cappuccino in an old Delft porcelain cup while the kids ate cookies (no other cake option at the time). The Boomtown Rats were emoting/emitting from an old record player, which I quickly took charge of and replaced with Radiohead. We sat in old leather chairs, surrounded by cheap antiques, art books, classic novels on a shelf supported by a Ducati motorcycle and bits of sculpture, drawings and paintings. The guy serving, a politics student from Macquarie Uni, was friendly and conversational. A real little oasis of calm with the air of an Oxford professor’s room. They hold life drawing classes on Thursday evenings for a tenner and as I paid made me roll a dice to determine the bill (the owner has brought in a new rule that if you roll a six your coffee is free). I rolled a two. Fab anyway.
This cafe is more of a community than a cafe , fantastic atmosphere friendly people delicious sandwiches and the best coffee I’ve had in ages! It reminds me of a writers cafe in Paris , I sat there all day to use the wifi and eat breakfast as well as lunch and coffee’s in-between. Can’t say enough good stuff ! Get your self there if your in newtown it’s worth the walk !
So cute!. A tiny, cute and quirky place with decent coffee and super-cheap light meals (e.g. $5.50 ham and cheese bagel). The owners make you feel at home while you dig your way through the piles of books for something to read while eating or buy to take home. I love the record player too. If that’s not enough, Tuesdays from noon they train recent refugees in caf work. So head in to welcome some new Australians, share your hospitality experience and get a discount for the extra wait.
Yeah!. Vinyl, books, coffee, snacklets and toasted goodness. A perfect combination.
