Those that know me know I am not a fan of Indian food because quite simply, I can’t handle the heat or the spice. The Mr, who is an avid rogan josh and butter chicken fanatic, probably cries himself to sleep because of this. Unfortunately for him, my refusal to cook or eat the cuisine meant he hasn’t had a taste in a long time. The perfect opportunity finally struck when we were dining in a food court, where he immediately made a beeline for the curry. I must admit the food was fragrant and the naan breads looked appetising. A choice of 3 meats with basmati rice set him back $10 and the plate appeared much more substantial than my tiny portion of salad. The beef vindaloo was a daring deep red with medium heat while the chicken kashmiri contained cubes of potato and chicken breast in a mild yellow curry. I’ve never been a fan of basmati rice because of its flat texture but I can certainly see it pulling its weight in holding the strong sauces in Indian cuisine. Although the Mr powered through the meal, he didn’t enjoy it; blaming it on the fact that each curry had overwhelmed the flavours of the other by being served in a flat plate. Perhaps compartmented packaging might be an idea. The lack of veggies also meant it was quite heavy and rich. Not the best induction to Indian cuisine I’m afraid.
