Sunny winter afternoon makes it perfect to enjoy lunch & drink at the rooftop bar. Interesting animal themed bar. The place was about half full, which gave it a good vibe, yet not crowded nor too noisy. My fish & chips was a bit average, neither the batter nor the chips were crunchy, the fish was a tad rubbery, I didn’t finish either. My friend’s shared the ribs & steak, they really enjoyed them, particularly the mash, very satisfied. The cocktails were pretty good too.
The booking fee is sort of what has drawn this review down – why would we spend on a booking fee when we could literally walk down king st for some of the best food in Sydney? Seems a bit silly to have it in my opinion. Anyway, service here was average and they got 2 of our orders wrong unfortunately. The food came out fairly quickly though, and I must say the $10 specials for dinner are worth the money! The portion size is huge. I had the chicken shnitzel, and the chicken was well seasoned and coated and tender also. It was just slightly dry around the sides but that is okay. I thought the salad was bland and didn’t really add to the plate, while the chips were average – not crispy or anything fabulous. Fun casual vibe, perfect for a mid-week drink and some dinner or lazy Saturday afternoon. The sweet potato fries are my go-to order and the pizzas are also good, however the wings could be improved. The service is friendly but sometimes a little vague on what the specials are. But this is a great local hang-out and quickly becoming our ‘regular’.
Awful experience at Websters. I received the wrong order of nachos and got told that if I wanted to eat what I originally ordered I would have to purchase the nachos again because I already started eating it. I didn’t realize my order was vegetarian until I had started eating. I had to demand to speak to the manager and make a scene before the error got rectified. In the end I was too scared to eat the new serving of nachos they brought out because I was scared they might have done something to the food. They were extremely rude and condescending to me the entire time. I’ll never go back to this place and do not recommend anyone else go if they want a decent feed.
The rooftop bar is really awesome and quite relaxing! It was quiet on an early Friday afternoon but nonetheless enjoyable. The prices are decent and the serve of chips is a lot! Yay
Great little spot in Newtown to grab a drink! Their cocktails menu is to die for and while I didn’t get to try any of the food, it looked amazing too. Great rooftop vibes and great service. I’ll be back next time I go drinking in Newtown!
I live and work around newtown and have been drinking at this bar for many years under its various names with no complaints until now. A friend was there for an xmas party tonight and a group of us met her for a catch up and a late pizza and drink afterwards. I just had one wine, while the others had cocktails and high end whiskeys, so i could drive my friend home. However after accompanying one of my friends up to the roof top courtyard for a smoke i was asked to leave. I was dead sober. There was no reason for the bouncers to think otherwise. I didnt argue just looked at him with a questioning smile yet three large african men suddenly menacingly escorted me, a slim female, from the rooftop all the way to the exit two floors down. I had to call the rest of my party to leave to despite their newly purchased cocktails. Wont be returning and wouldnt recommend it for a christmas party. Mortifying and slightly scary. Women should stay away.
