Traditional Korean delivered in a simple kitchen environment. The old couple who run this place make tasty dishes and ample serving for a very low cost. but dont expect fast and snazzy service. Its a place to have a chat and enjoy whats on offer.
Kinda yoloed into here, well caught meself n stopped dead out front really, then arrgghh eff it, a mans gotta eat. Hmm.. open plan kitchen w just a counter separating diners from the barely english speaking couple (mom n son, its gotta be mom n son) who did everything (it looked like). I would have stuck my sticky beak in n politely asked but blame my lack of korean linguistic skills and the time i had before heading into a meeting, i didnt n cudnt. Still, i stand by that they gotta b mother n son. Otherwise, i want the blokes secret youth elixir! (Despite all appearances!) The small (ish) dining area at lunch time was empty, save for a few working korean men, which further encouraged me to walk up to the counter, esp after eyeing the bowls of noodles they were slurping away. At this time i was telling meself: thats gotta be instant noodles by NongShim. So ordered the ramyun w extra egg (ramen/noodle) n curry chicken w rice n stuck my beak in to see if the actually eventuated. True enuf, the unmistakable crackle of the package being open pricked my ears confirmed that it was indeed the awesome NongShim. Ramyun (by NongShim, curated by Jingogae) 2.75/5, the soup tasted different, in a good way. Do add the egg pls. Initially i thought it was all vegetarian but i think there were small pieces of minced pork in my bowl though i could be mistaken. A mystery then. Nonetheless enjoyable. Curry chicken with rice 2.75/5, a more straight fwd dish. I cannot fGs pigeon hole the origin (as in which country this curry resembled). But hey, it wasnt bad.And please when the lady hobbles to carry your order to your table, bloody get up and meet her more than halfway folks.
I’m a sucker for small traditional honest places run by the hearts of true people from other countries. True, it is not the most upmarket and freshest restaurant out there, but I fully support an elderly couple bringing their cuisine in the most honest way. Cheap, hearty, generous and delicious. I’m not looking for upper-class oil-free, organic fresh food. I want warming dishes from the heart and that’s what you get. Kudos to the sweet couple for setting up this place, I love coming here after my library sessions.
