A French style Bistro served out of a Pub… The decor was your classic pub feel to it, the food itself was not bad at all. Whilst certainly not the greatest, it was still good for what you got and price you pay.I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat here but if I was in the vicinity would probably pop back in

Doesn’t this place bring back fond memories! I have been going to Union Hotel for more than 10 years. They shut the pub for months to go through a complete overhaul, voila the pub became bigger, better and the food certainly stepped out a few notches. Ever since it has become a favourite for Friday work lunches or afterwork drinks. My favourite dish was the $20 Friday lunch special ribs. It was by far the best ribs I ever had. They even gave you a bib, there must be hilarious photos somewhere out there showing my colleagues covered in BBQ sauce in their bibs. Unfortunately they stopped doing the Friday rib special. The last meal I had there was actually below average – a tiny single duck leg served on top of a huge bed of lentils. I felt I paid $20+ just to get a plate of lentils as the duck was so tiny and gone in 3 bites! Nevertheless we had so many laughs and good times in this place, the food had been consistently good from burgers, fish and chips to steak. it was one of the better pub grub in North Sydney. thernbdiary.com

Great Steaks!. When I’m in the area I like coming here to have a few pints of Guinness with my friends before we stuff ourselves silly on the steaks. Always great quality and cooked to perfection! Love it.

This place is a real favourite – quite literally, I’ve never had a bad meal at the Union. They are clearly passionate about producing delicious and inventive food and to an exceptional standard. The service is always great too: helpful, friendly and efficient.

What a disappointment! Probably one of the most underwhelming meals I’ve had for a while. Lovely fit out but quite simple yet poorly executed food.

The Food is pretty average and the staff seems cranky. Food used to be good but has seriously slipped. Not really child friendly either. Like the last reviewer said, chips were good (better than Doyles, but then again a Chimpanzee could do better than Doyles). Decor a bit like a cheap RSL. Overall, a bit like the moon – no atmosphere.

Le Bistro. This restaurant, situation on the ground floor of the Union Hotel has so much potential but unfortunately it fails to deliver. The menu sounds absolutely mouth-watering however on the two occasions that we have dined here, the food has certainly missed the mark. On both occassions the food was average, bordering on bland. On our first visit we had the Chicken Schnitzel BLT ($15) and the 250g MSA Rump ($18). For our second visit, we tried the Chorizo Sausage, Rocket and Roasted Peppers Pizza ($16) and a Basket of Frites ($7).Yes, we did give this place a second chance however it confirmed our initial rating that the food was certainly average. These were meals that would have been cooked better at home and yet, they weren’t cheap. Quite a shame as the menu does read well and the pub’s decor and atmosphere is inviting. Don’t expect restaurant quality service either from the unhappy bar staff. The one thing that they do do well is hot chips, but who can’t do that?
