Service was very slow, and when our food finally came out they dropped the chicken on the table. They picked it up and put it back on the plate. It wasnt until she saw the horrified looks on our faces that she offered to replace it. The chicken itself was not up to standard. It was dry on the inside and greasy on the outside. We left without finishing.
I don’t usually review places but I had to share my experience from tonight. Going on the recommendation of friends, and with the assurance of a vegetarian burger on request, I was pretty deflated when Desmond told me he didn’t have any veggie patties, meaning I’d have to resort to salad. Theirs looked great but we all know you don’t make friends with salad, especially not when you’ve been pumped all day for a burger.Barely missing a beat, Desmond offered to create something from scratch including whatever sides I wanted, or he could surprise me with his own creation at a very reasonable cost. He then consulted me along the way to make sure it would be to my liking, going so far as to offer a sample of the patty he’d created. Who does that?!The final result was a ridiculously big burger featuring two oversized, cheese-smothered, deep-fried patties filled with eggplant, broccoli and other vegetables either side of a hash brown and their special burger sauce. This was the veggie burger to end all veggie burgers as you can see from the photo, and it tasted so fresh.I was proud I finished it, along with a delicious truffle mac and cheese, although pride probably isn’t the most appropriate emotion. While most joints these days offer halloumi or mushroom burgers, this was insanely different (not to mention improvised!) and for the better. A permanent fixture on the menu I can only hope. Oh, and the waterlemon drink is freaking delicious and refreshing. This is how you run a food business when you don’t primarily cater to a decent chunk of the population use what you’ve got in the kitchen. A menu is only a guide so if you’re able to adapt it on the fly then you’ll please a lot of people whose dietary requirements aren’t the norm. And this is what good customer service should look like. Desmond could tell I was disappointed so worked doubly hard to make my visit not just adequate but memorable. To get that in a chicken shop is especially impressive. As I left he was discussing enthusiastically what burger he’d make me next time, because we both knew there’ll be a next time, which is good because there very easily couldn’t have been.
