Yesh finally Sam’s back! After a hiatus of a year, Sam, whose shop at crows nest, delighted patrons for more than a decade (or 2), has moved to our old sleepy burb of nthbrdg where the ‘celebrity’ chef, Billy’s shop was previously. Spore hokkien mee, sam’s own version, which has stood the test of time and one of my firm favourites. No it is not quite authentic as it lacks the prawn shell broth, pork lard, pork slices, etc etc, sam’s ver is more akin to ‘spore noodles’ w a twist. Let sam know how mild or spicy you want it. Comes generously sprinkled w mini prawns n squid. Forget the normal char kwee diao which is available in the menu. Go for the penang ckt, again sam’s interpretation minus the clams. Nasi goreng w bbq pork (or any meat of your choice) is another fav of mine. Let’s not forget the har mee (prawn noodle soup) while you are there. What i do steer away from is the laksa (sorry sam). I am never quite taken by the broth, which comes across as too ‘coconuty’ and lacks the prawn ‘punch’. Everything else on the menu is worth trying though.
