Being half Persian-half leb, I am a big fan of middle eastern food. I absolutely love Persian food so seeing this place near my house made me decide to try it. I ordered the Soltani which came with the usual basmati rice, tomato, chilli and 2 meat skewers: 1 koobideh (minced lamb) and 1 barg (flat lamb). The plate was massive, more like a platter than a meal so I shared with my mum. The koobideh was nice. Loved the side of crunchy bread, I wish they put more. I have been to so many amazing Persian restaurants that remind me of beautiful authentic home cooking and not once have I been let down but this experience was honestly so disappointing. The barg, which is a very flat meat and shouldnt be cooked for long, was SO over cooked we couldnt eat it. The rice tasted like it was several days old which made it so unpleasant to eat. I barely touched anything besides the koobideh skewer and the little sides of veggies and bread. Yes, my plate was big, but it was certainly not worth the price -$30 for that is ridiculous. Most Persian restaurants dont charge any more than $20 for this dish. I was also shocked when I went to pay at the counter and saw their special for today – the same plate I got for $15?!?!! They ripped me off and let me order the $30 plate, purposely not telling me their special for the SAME plate, very well knowing I couldve got it half of the price. Not cool Worst Persian restaurant Ive been to in terms of food and service. Food: 1.5/5Presentation: 3/5 Service: 2/5Location: 2/5
Its my first time trying Persian food and I had an enjoyable dining experience at Anais. Started with Tapas of Persia. Served with Lebanese bread, it comes with a variety of flavourful dips and pickled vegetables. My favourite has got to be the Igra, delish! Then I tried the feast of Anais for two. Delicious and generously portioned, there are 4 large skewers (lamb chunks, beef chunks, lamb mince and chicken breast) served with aromatic basmati rice and Shirazi salad. All four skewers are so good. Then the dessert. Wow! The homemade Persian ice cream has very distinctive and a nice flavour of rose, saffron and pistachios. The addition of baklava and Persian fairy floss on top brought this dish to the next level.
Great serving sizes with fantastic skewers of lamb and chicken. The rice in main dishes are somewhat bland but then again I can’t tell you if that’s the cuisine or not. Basic wine and cocktail list. The plates and different shades of white which is a bit off-puting.
Anais is my first and only taste of a Persian restaurant. I have been there twice. The first time I got the pilaf with chicken and the second time I got the kebab plate. The kebabs were definitely the winner in terms of taste. I thought the pilaf and chicken were a bit too sweet and needed a kick, either in chillies or something acidic like a lemon and not just served on the side but cooked through the dishes. Although my preferences may be borne from the fact that I am not accustomed to Persian flavours. I definitely wouldn’t mind trying out some of the kebab dishes again.
Great food, good atmosphere & reasonably priced
Disappointed- lack of service & rude attitude!!. We took some family visiting from overseas to Anais upon recommendation from a work mate. We were sadly late and as a result the staff refused to seat us inside the empty restaurant curtly reminding us of our lateness. All through our meal the tables inside remained unoccupied so we became dinner for lots of mozzies! There was only one staff working so waited long for even for water to turn up at the table. My son’s lemonade came in well after our mains!! And when we complained about service the man inside asked to to go to McDonalds if we were after better service! Sheer disappointment at the lack of basic courtesy and customer service!! We were looking forward to a good meal and with the current situation at hand decided to give it a try. The food served with curt customer service ruined a nice evening. Thanks but no thanks!
Anais Feast For Two. Yummy bbq skewers on a bed of saffron flavored rice with grilled pepper and shiraz salad is a must have 🙂
