Came here for lunch on the weekend. It wasn’t busy which was great cause otherwise it gets super loud. I had the Atlantic Salmon which was just delicious. The sweet potato fries are also awesome, definitely worth ordering if you just come here for a quick nibble and drinks! The lamb salad looked great too.
Below are a list of reasons for our over the top five star rating for this place:1: Having a $10 burger or reuben special (with the purchase of beer or wine) and the barman allowing us to get the pulled pork burger at $10 sans the booze ($18 normally). Customer service right there.2: The ambience out the back – trendy and upscale yet not too pretentious.3: A few battered and deep-fried jalapeno slices tossed in amongst shoestring fries. We love a little surprise!4: The pulled pork burger came out with strips of crispy pork belly lavished across a brioche bun, with the pulled pork nestled underneath, smothered in sweet and tangy ‘slaw. It was just pure porky bliss.5: Reuben sandwich (normally $14). This modern marvel was not your average Reuben. Two ludicrously massive, craggy slabs of melt-in-your-mouth, not-too-salty cured brisket, topped with the usual Reuben subjects of Swiss, ‘slaw and Russian dressing served up on huge slices of amazingly toasty buttery Rye bread. Served alongside gherkins and pickled onions. One could have easily fed two.
Whenever there was a pub crawl, GN was always a must stop. It is off Oxford street and in a quiet neighbourhood. That’s part of the reason why we like it. They are not pretentious, just a good local drinking hole with good service and decor. thernbdiary.com
AFL Grand final day – had to ask twice for the TV to be turned for pre-game. Venue switched back to music before the Norm Smith medallist. Bar staff and food were great.
Really nice pub. The seating is good and the staff are generally a lot more attentive than those in other bars in the area. Prices are comparable to other pubs in the area, and in some instances they are a bit better. My only criticism (and I know this sounds pedantic!) is that they used to do an awesome rueben with really good quality meat and for only around $14. The last two times I have been there they have changed the meat to really cheap cuts. Here’s hoping they change it back.
Love the renovations at The Grand National, they have really transformed this Paddington icon! The clear separation between the bistro & pub parts remains great (you can still eat in the pub section) and the menu is very extensive! The weeknight specials are cheap and cheerful and good value (however it would be nice if the steaks were less fatty on the 2 for 1 Tuesday..) overall a great little Paddington gem with the same charm it’s always had!
Best pub ever. Really awesome place, great host and good
