I visited the W for a quick dinner before Drag Bingo. It is a pleasant, modern bistro with a big menu full of the usual ‘pub food’ staples such as steaks, schnitzels, pizza and burgers. We wanted to try a few things, so selected the Salt + Pepper Squid ($14), the Fried Pork + Prawn Gyoza ($16), the Prawn Linguine ($24) and the Steakhouse Chips ($6). The standout for me was the Gyoza as it was crispy, yet soft as pan fried Gyoza should be and was well presented with spring onions, sesame mayo and sesame seeds. Although the squid was tender, I wasn’t a fan of the thick crumb. The pasta was good, with five prawns (which seems to be the established standard in prawn pastas all over the place) but the tomato sauce was a tad too heavy. The chips were exactly what you would expect from a bowl of good pub chips. Overall, a nice, well priced bistro style meal.
