A very cool stripped back bar/restaurant with a Newtown feel. Bare concrete floors with an eclectic decor and a relatively limited but delicious menu. The mushroom gnocchi is outstanding as is the squid. If you live in Penrith but travel in to Sydney for something more refined, pay a visit to Mr Watkins. Maybe not the place to go when very hungry but certainly the place to go afterwards or when you’re happy to have something relatively light.However, their decision to advertise this bar using a topless woman with coasters over her nipples is pretty sad. Seriously? This is 2018 and we have moved beyond this. After editing my original facebook review with my opinion of the topless photo, I received a very abusive comment from a woman defending the establishments right to advertise like this and that I should grow up. It turns out the woman was the mother of one of the employees. If abuse of patrons, who share opinions, by the parents of employees is condonned by Mr Watkins, it’s not a place I will return to.
