Brighton on the Corner is a sunny little cafe in Petersham, with a breezy modern Australian menu on offer. Burgers, salads, French toast and other brunchy items are there for the eating, on a lazy, sunny weekend morning. I have to report, however, that besides the French toast, most of what I tried were pretty average. And considering that Petersham is cafe central, Im not really sure what separates Brighton from the rest. The Brie salad (the sound of which made me go ooh I gotta try that one) consisted of a decent salad just topped pieces of Brie, not the oozing luscious goodness that I envisioned having. The French toast was lovely though, especially when topped with bacon. Soaked thoroughly in syrup and topped with fresh fruit, it reminded me of a less custardy, more sweet, bread pudding. Very comforting and rich, but definitely made to share. On the upside, though, the staff are incredibly helpful. They do try their best to help with requests (I might have a biased experience since I was invited to dine, but I did try to eavesdrop to get a better idea of the unadulterated service. What?! Its all in the name of a balanced review! XD), and the junior members of staff are always polite and check to see if something can be done even if theyre not sure. Nice little space if youre local, but in an area that has so many cafes that you cant walk a step without tripping over one, Im not sure that Brighton is high up on my list to revisit in the near future. insatiablemunchies.com

I had the Vegetarian Stack for breakfast which consists of Poached egg, haloumi, mushrooms spinach and a potato rosti. Unfortunately after getting the dish I noticed there were no mushrooms in it at all (as was described on the menu), which made it very insubstantial. I asked where the mushrooms were and the waiter told me that they had run out. She offered me another side of my choosing instead which I accepted (a small bowl of chips). Anyway, about half an hour after the breakfast I started feeling very sick – my stomach was doing backflips and I kept needing to run to the bathroom.

It’s so sad what has happened to this once lovely cafe. I still love its look and feel but that’s about it. They’ve obviously changed owners and it’s now just sad, and very very average.I had the avocado addiction – was just total mush, a tiny half a tomato and the smallest sprinkle of feta. Worst was the sad dry toast. Oh and a hair was found underneath my toast…Don’t waste your time – it’s nothing like it used to be. There’s just no love, tasteless food, very average service. Coffee was fine and a lovely location but otherwise just needs a total overhaul

Just had lunch in this cafe. What an awful experience.Rude waitress ignored us as long as she could. We ordered and of course they didn’t send half of the order to table!Don’t go there! That’s my best advice!

Worst cafe experience I’ve had in Sydney for a long time.Simple scrambled eggs were dry, they managed to take off the taste of grilled haloumi cheese, sauted spinach was average, even the mango smoothie was tasteless! Coffee was ok.Staff were friendly.Basically don’t bother, it was a waste of time

Had brunch here with friends. We all agreed everything was bland and disappointing. Scrambled eggs were white and over cooked, pulled pork burger was also strangely lacking taste. Coffee was decent however.

We went for lunch because of the good reviews. It took about an hour after ordering before the food came so wasn’t very happy with that. It wasn’t even that busy so not sure why it took that long. Eventually when the food came, I noticed that my dish was missing tomatoes so I let one of the waiters know who said they would give this to me on the side. After another 20 minute wait, I had already finished my food and still no sign of tomatoes. We left because we were sick of waiting for non-existent service. The food wasn’t that tasty so won’t be going back.
