I retracted my review from years ago just so I could give Silvas the praise it so rightly deserves. It’s easy to make the mistake of ordering the chicken from here, which if I’m to be honest isn’t anything overly special. The garlic prawns however were sizzling in a bath of flavour-packed, herbaceous oil, perfect for mopping your slices of complimentary garlic bread. The grilled octopus was meaty without being chewy. The char-grilled pork had the most lip-smacking rub, and the espada a madeirense was tender, well seasoned, and perfectly rested. Silvas’ honest style of no-fuss cooking, warm atmosphere and friendly service transported me immediately back to Porto. All there is left to do is crack open a bottle of vino tinto and bom apetite!
Popped in the other day and was looking forward to this. ordered chicken with chilli and chips and a drink. Got the order to go; in a bag and stated that we’d preferred to dine in and was met with indifference – dont think its that hard to slop the food on a plate and if there’s a extra charge, fine. So took the bag and sat outside on their street side seats to eat. No chilli on the chicken so it was just a bit of charry semi-decent chicken you get at any chicken shop and some bland chips. underwhelmed. Could have gone to Clems for better chicken and friendlier service. jugernauts.com
Lets start with the fact that I have always been loyal to Frangos but decided to give here a shot as I had a mate from Canberra with me who insisted we try it out. I was reluctant as I had eaten there last 7 years prior and was quite let down. Needless to say we went in for a Sunday lunch. Oh em gee! Prawns divine. Chicken divine. Pork belly divine! Will definitely be going back! The flavours of everything were amazing and divine! Upset I didnt try again sooner. Thanks for a delicious meal and great service!
I love Portuguese food and where better to go, than Petersham, the Portuguese capital of Sydney. I recently did a review of the Portuguese chicken at Frangos. This week, I tried Silvas.Id like to begin by saying that we (myself and 1 other person) ordered way too much food. I was stuffed by the end of the meal (though that didnt stop me from picking away at the dishes) and left the restaurant armed with 2 takeaway meals. But how do you resist ordering multiple dishes when there is such a delicious menu?! Silvas also gave us complimentary bread which wasnt great (it was a bit dry) but I ate it anyway at the start which was a huge rookie error in filling me up.The best dish of the night was the BBQ Octopus. I was expecting baby octopus, like you get at the Fish Markets, but they were huge! Check out those tentacles and the head. It was juicy, it was salty and importantly, it tasted really fresh! The octupus meat was tender with subtle flavours from the salt , spring onions and lemon juice…For the full review, check out imhangry.net/2017/09/10/silvas-in-petersham/
Great food, great atmosphere. It’s not fine dining by any means but the portions are huge and delicious and great value for money. The only downside was that we had to ask to order drinks twice because they forgot but they were also extremely busy and they were apologetic so they earns the points back. The octopus was an entree size and I literally thought they’d brought out a main size, same goes for the pork belly/ribs.All up we had 4 dishes (2 mains and 2 entrees) and 2 beers and it was under $80 including free bread and olives. Easily enough food 3-4.
I like the chicken burger. Similar to frangos but maybe the chilli sauce is a bit less salty. My friend likes the celery soup. He got the goat soup this time and said celery was better. Service was okay but it was reallllly busy.
So impressed by there pork belly with garlic and chilli sauce -delicious !! I’ll go back for that !!Chicken burger yummy (get the garlic sauce) and I rate it higher than Frango Good chicken salt too 🙂
