Possibly the most unorganised pub in Sydney out of Ros and Pinot Grigio on arrival line out the door to order food, 2 bar staff on Anzac day, only to be served luke warm slop then line up for another 30 mins plus for a beer… avoid this over hyped dive. Completely ruined a good day..
Black betty servers authentic American BBQ which is slow roasted unlike any sort of Aussie style BBQ. You generally get slow roasted beef ribs/briskets or pulled pork. They server in thick slices, packing in a good bite of meat without the meat being too tough to chew on. Cost works by per 100grams. We got 100g of both the beef ribs and pork belly. Orders come with a side of slaw, we were also given some burnt sides (great for drinking) and corn bread as well! The pork belly we had was amazing. Super tender and soft in the inside with a smoked and crispy surrounding giving it great texture. Short ribs was alright, more towards the salty crispy side, great for a beer. They open on Fridays and weekends only, so make sure you’ve checked their open times on their website. Beef brisket was not served on the Friday I went, I asked and apparently its saved for Saturday and Sunday. There are not too many American style BBQ’s in Sydney to choose from, Black betty is great for those who are sick of the usual ribs you get from hurricanes and want to try meat cooked differently. Pros : Good authentic American BBQ. Great to cure that crave after seeing videos or photos on FB about franklin’s from the US (Usually requires 4 hours wait!)Con : Food was towards the salty side.Must get : Pork belly
I like the oxford tavern. It has yummy food and cold cheap beer and outdoor seating. The bbq is decent as are the pub classics. Inside and from the street it has a divey kinda aesthetic which is cool and doesn’t seem forced or too deliberate. Me likey.
Service: Simple – order at the barAtmosphere : simple – tables could do with replacingPortion : larger than averageBathroom : unpleasantTransport: walking distance from petersham stationParking: parking lot right next door – enter via fisher street YESSchnitzel: Recommend to NOT get it with the PARMA as it turns soggyBlack Betty BBQ: ExcellentNOQuesalida: Tasteless and unpleasant texture*Can be noisy*
Tried the parmigiana with eggplant, well cooked and fresh ingredients, above average for pub food, would have it again. Nice space for dining out back as the front is still a bit daggy.
Black Betty BBQ is a major letdown! I went to this utter dump of a bar specifically to try the BBQ. Epic fail! The meat was dry and not smoky at all. If you want real American BBQ go to bovine and swine.
Venue – needs a good clean.Food – terrible (fried chicken tasted like old oil and ceviche was overdone!?).Drinks – Bloody Mary was so spicy it was inedible.
