I love this Chinese restaurant so much authentic dish that she brings to a whole next level. MUST ORDER: peking duck, fried eggs, steamed dumplings!! They do not do any desserts, but serve gelato from Rivareno.Ambience is really nice even tho the place is narrow, food comes around 10-15 mins, amazing service and you can take photos with the one & only Kylie Kwong if you dont mind waiting a bit.
This is a great looking restaurant: long and dark with a big open kitchen which provides interest and entertainment for bar side customers. And for an open kitchen it is remarkably quiet and calm. I chose a degustation for $80 ( or was it $85) which was rejigged to suit my pescatarian dietary needs. I really think that messed up the flow and flavour profile of the dishes that came out. They did not really work that well together. Chefs put a lot of thought into their menus. A lot of consideration is given to how the juxtaposition of flavours and whether those pairings delight the palate, or not. I liked the small appetisers such as the saltbush cake. More of those please! The subtle flavour of my steamed fish, on the other hand, was overwhelmed by the saltiness of a very soy flavoured very intense broth. The silky soft deep fried tofu was delicious but simple to an extreme. The coconut sorbet at the end of the meal, I thought, was a dreadful finish. It may have been made in-house but it really lacked anything but a straight out one dimensional flavour. Im sure Ive enjoyed a store bought Macha ice cream more. Next time I would just order a la carte and forgo the degustation, and bring a few friends along to increase the amount of choice. Kylie was greeting guests and waiting on tables, using her calm yet strong presence to an advantage. I felt very proud of her as a woman in this very demanding industry and of her success (yet I dont know her) as it is no mean feat running a restaurant of this quality in Sydney.
