Great food here from selection of super tasty starters tempting enough to fill you up before the excellent authentic italian pizzas. Great wine and cocktail list too.
If you have an Italian craving, this place well and truly scratches the itch. The pasta is top quality, the charcuterie on-point and the pizzas big enough to feed a small village (which is fine because they can be boxed up, taken home and eaten for lunch the next day). eatplaylovetravel.com.au
Definitely a place to go back!!!lovely food friendly staff!!!!everything is home made, very tasty, fresh Italian products, very pleasant environment to enjoy a nice night out!!
It is the care and detail that goes into each dish that makes an evening here exceptional. The pizza bases and the texture of the pasta makes this one of the best Italianrestaurants I have tried in Sydney. Slightly more attentive service would have meant we easily would have ordered a couple more bottles of wine and full availability of the dessert menu would have tipped this to a 5/5. But delicious food and great ambience mean I will be back.
The location, ambience and setting absolutely flawless- but that’s what I expected from the former location of Jimmy Liks, a former iconic restaurant that I wish had of awaited me at Society Di Catania. We went as a young family (perhaps this restaurant is not set up for this), however the website advertised opening at 5pm and we expected that the restaurant would welcome us at this early time. As it turned out my wife arrived at 5.27pm with the restaurant empty only to be told that ‘they opened in 3 minutes’, So let’s forget about that and give the benefit of the doubt to a mix up by the matrie d with his knowledge of his website, and common courtesy to allow a woman and child off the cold winters street out of the cold into the restaurant where we eventually dropped $150.We ordered the arancini balls, a ham and mushroom wood fired pizza for our 2.5 yr old daughter. My wife and I had the strozzapreti mixed seafood and chilli oil pasta. For the uninitiated strozzapreti pasta translates to ‘Priest stranglers’ and a bottle of Soave. The arancini came out quickly it was quite tasty but cold in the centre so clearly frozen, but homemade and if not for the temperature very nice. The smoked ham and mushroom wood fired pizza was next. I’m not an expert on the wood fire technique nor how much liquid would normally exude from ham and mushrooms during the wood fire process, however the pizza was soggy and could only be eaten rolled up- like a crepe’. Finally the seafood strozzapreti with chilli oil. It was difficult to distinguish between the pasta and the calamari Both visually and also by the chewy texture- I guess that’s why it was named ‘priests strangler’ many, many years ago. The other seafood looked good but the overall taste and texture was too fishy and quite sllmy. Now we know that taking a child of 2.5 can be difficult for everyone, other customers, the staff and the parents – that’s why we arrive as early as possible, to be considerate, ( also armed with the usual iPad and necessary distractions required). There were no other customers so that was covered, but our daughter did break free to the end of the restaurant and scared the staff a little when she approached the candles which were set at knee level. We did the obligatory telling off in front of the staff and came back to the table to finish off the Soave which was very good – at $60 I would expect it to be decent. My daughter had the last word and summed up the meal very well. When we eyeballed her to reinforce ‘we don’t touch candles’ she looked at us both sheepishly and with consummate timing said ‘the rice balls were good’ pure gold!! Try your luck but there is so much better in the area…!
Delicious food, we had pizza, mozzarella calzone and the mussels. Everything was great. Atmosphere and service also well done. Definitely return. @grapevine
Best Italian in Sydney city, authentic food that is consistently amazing upon every visit and across the menu. This has to be the best pizza I’ve had, and that includes the gluten free base. Staff are very attentive and genuinely try to ensure you’re enjoying your experience. Well done ! The city was in need for some real Italian!
