I had the most unctuous prawn pasta here this week. The intense flavour was achieved by an infused prawn butter. I could not resist the deep fried flathead either even though Id technically had enough to eat. It was just perfect: light, crispy crunchy batter and soft white fish meat. Perfection! The Fish Shop is a very casual restaurant right next to my other favourite, Fratelli. The restaurant manager was very well informed, and did a great job of selling me on the prawn pasta special, demonstrating that he knows his job! Really worth going to The Fish Shop even if its a bit out of your way.

Friendly, attentive and professional service. The Fish Shop is somewhere you go for fish and chips with class. I was at the end of my pay this week so I had to order the tabouli side for lunch because the $28 fish & chips was nearly half my weeks food shop. I think the side may have even been more than your $9 snapper and chips at the local. Regardless, the tabouli was absolutely delicious and so fresh. My friends fish and chips did look lovely…

Dont let the beach shack vibe fool you. This is not your average fish shop. Yes, youll find fish n chips on the menu. But, your beer-battered flathead sits right alongside the likes of cured salmon and Sydney rock oysters (which, by the way, are plumper than Kylie Jenners lips). The seafood is local, seasonal and sustainable all sourced from the Sydney Fish Market which means the market list menu changes daily. The wine list also defies logic, and the ice cream sandwich with salted caramel sauce is off the scales. There is a take-away menu too, so you can get your snapper to go. But the closest beach is four kilometres away (Double Bay), and take-away just seams wrong if youre not dropping your chips in the sand and being hassled by seagulls. eatplaylovetravel.com.au

Got the fish burger takeaway & was extremely disappointed. Found a bug on my burger & my fish patty was burnt. Definitely not worth the $22 I paid. Won’t be back.

Wow! What an incredible place! I visited the fish shop with my family for my 21st (I’m not a fish lover, mind you!) and absolutely loved this place. The fish shop has a very friendly atmosphere and the staff were all very helpful. The food was also amazing! I tried some of the deep fried prawns which were very tasty and the sashimi was so fresh. I ordered a cheeseburger for the main which was delicious and we all could not get enough of the cocktails!!! The fish shop is a must!

Classy yet casual & cosy setting (inside). The place is buzzing for Sunday lunch. Not extensive but a good range & varieties on the menu. I got the fish & chips (beer battered flathead). Nicely fried, crispy & not oily batter, fish moist & soft inside. The chips were top notch (I polished them all!). My friend had the fish burger (crumbed fish, bacon & chill). They were accommodating & served the jalapeo on the side for my chilli shy friend), and she enjoyed the burger. Service was friendly & efficient, we stayed a bit longer for a chat after even when we didn’t order desserts, and didn’t get rushed out. Great lunch!

Skipping school for the day, our afternoon at The Fish Shop was an absolute treat to top off our day away from reality. Nestling-in on an outside table in that beautiful void between lunch and dinner, we were shown sensational service from start to finish from everyone we encountered. The menu is a treasure trove for anyone who loves good quality food, as the menu is where it all starts. The vermentino is fantastic and a good start on the wine list you’d be happy to repeat.Clams, Tuna Tartare, Croquettes and School Prawns. We Loved everything, and it would be difficult not to. School prawns crisp. Clams tender in a beautiful mellow malt vinegar. Tuna balanced, zesty and luscious. Most of all, we loved Dan’s famous cheeseburger. It’s been here for years and still retained quality and reputation, even when its not served rare – these days this must be requested, so make sure you do as its the epitome of a quality classic cheeseburger, and probably the best I’ve had in Sydney. I’m sure I’m not alone. There is a casual yet polished coastal vibe, and it sports the typical Merivale mark. There’s elegant quirks from the tableware to well-thought out decor, and overall, The Fish Shop is a bright example of such satisfying quality across all aspects of dining out. crumbs-au.com
