A great restaurant. I had the degustation with matching wines. LuMi delivers its Italian Japanese fusion really well as the essence of either is present yet the flavours are so well balanced. There are many fusion attempts out there, and once you try LuMi you too will admit they do it well. The location is beautiful and cosy – best in the early evening when the sun sets. The open kitchen is a busy finesse and intriguing to watch and to listen to. LuMi has a more unique range of quality wines to accompany the menu. The (lady) sommelier is so knowledgeable about wines and gifted with the skill to socially educate you on the options you have, depending upon your personal taste and sensitivities, without making you feel inferior about your (aka my) limited knowledge. Personable service from all too. LuMi is Definitely worth trying as you get both quality and value.
This is actually a really great fine dining restaurant. They do two degustation courses options and we went with the Chefs Menu ($185pp). Every single dish was really well put together and tasted amazing. There was a lot of seafood incorporated into the menu at my visit and it was so fresh and amazing. My top dishes were the Italian gunkan, tempura, brioche, taglioni vongole & calamari, pork and the white chocolate and sudachi. The service was great and you get nice water views as well. Definitely my top pick for a special occasion!
Came here with a group of friends for my birthday. Situated on Wharf 10 overlooking Pyrmont Bay, its a wonderful location and offers diners a picturesque view to indulge in their 2 chef hat dining degustation experience. Federico Zanellato is chef and owner and does a stunning job on what is presented. Fine dining Italian Japanese fusion all rolled into one.First choice of the night is whether to choose the Small Tasting which consists of 7 courses or indulge with their Lumi Experience of 10 courses. We chose the latter and it was an excellent decision. There are 3 snacks (Tuna, Chawanmushi, Jerusalem Artichoke) as well as Rye & Spelt Brioche thatact as one course. Highlights were the artichoke paired with mushroom as the flavours and texturesplayed well together. The bread was heavenly and wouldve been happy indulging in that with the amazing butter that was served with it. Italian Gunkan was brought in between these and was an Italian inspired sushi. Next courses were White Asparagus, Macadamia then Snapper and Ravioli. It leaves plenty to the imagination when its only one or two word descriptions on the menu but the waiters and chefs who bring out the dish will explain it in more detail. Snapper was some ceviche style and the ravioli was filled with pork, fennel, and orange. The flavours were on point and presentation was lovely. As it is a seasonal menu it was geared more heavily towards seafood so may have enjoyed it more during winter where heavier dishes may have applied as some of the table werent as enamoured with having as much seafood. Following this was the Hapuka and Quail. The hapuka was cooked well and wrapped in kohlrabi. Quail was a dainty thing with beetroot presented in a couple of ways. There were three sweet items to finish and they were White Chocolate & Sudachi, Liquorice & Coconut then Petit Four. Lovely sweet dishes without being overly so. The chocolate was roasted/caramelised thus taking away the intensely sweet flavour it usually has. We were concerned with liquorice as a few of us dont enjoy it that much but happy to report it was quite subtle in the meringue. Coconut sorbet was refreshing. A little candle was placed on the plate which was nice. Its ranked well for a reason and definitely a must try if youre in Sydney. Thewhereto
Despite all of my excitement for this venue it was a slight let down. The location is fantastic but the tasting menu did not have the wow factor for me.
LuMi Bar & Dining is definitely an experience to enjoy for a special occasion. The atmosphere is romantic and beautiful with dangling lights and isolation of the restaurant by Pyrmont Wharf. We ordered the LuMi Experience menu for $150pp. 1. Italian gunkan – okay2. Moreton bay bug & guanciale – moreton bay bug & a cold cut meat similar to prosciutto on a tart shell – good3. Uni with nori crisp – sea urchin with a seaweed crisp, had bad experiences with uni before but this one was not fishy and was smooth – okay 4. Jerusalem artichoke – the artichoke was smooth – okay5. Wagyu – smoked wagyu tartare – okay 6. Rye & spelt brioche – nice tasting brioche bread with a lovely butter to accompany – okay 7. Peas, broadbeans & edamame – didnt like the taste of cold beans together – not good 8. Chawanmushi – smooth & silky steamed egg, topped with crab meat – good 9. Porcini agnolotti – mushroom filling + extra $15 for truffle on top, generous truffle topping – good 10. Toothfish – soft and flakey fish – good 11. Wagyu – quality wagyu, charred cabbage & carrot pure – good 12. Dulce de leche – yuzu elements, refreshing – good 13. Licorice & coconut – coconut sorbet/ice cream and licorice dessert, cant taste the licorice which is nice – good 14. Petite four – chestnut dessert – okay janicexrose.wordpress.com
I came here a few months back so menu may have changed, service could also be improved abit. The appetisers stood out the most to me, they were perfectly balanced with textures and flavours. Some of the entrees were a hit and miss but would definitely come back since I do enjoy Italian asian fusion. My favourite dish was actually the dessert, truffle and licorice ice cream… never thought Id enjoy such an interesting flavour combo but it was amazinggg.
