Pros: good bar service. Really fast kitchen: even with several big groups they manage to serve everything pretty quickly. Lovely steaks. Nice atmosphere: excellent outside patio.Contras: need to train their waiters. Not that they are not trying, but my recent experience just showcases the lack of training. I ordered an Asian salad with spicy dressing. The salad arrived but was dry and there was no sign of dressing whatsoever (you can’t really miss ginger if it’s there!). I complained to the waiter who said he had no idea, but took it back. He then reappeared and plonked another bowl of salad in frontof me. Well, that one had plenty of dressing, but it was the WRONG salad. I was there with a big group so didn’t want to argue any further and just let him know that I’ll have the salad, but that it’s a wrong one. There was no apology or attempt to remedy the situation. Some other people next to me complained about the quality of their salads too, so there’s definitely a problem to be fixed.

Recommend sitting inside the dining part for a drink which offers nicer decor and some comfy lounges that are great to sit back and have a glass or two of wine. The cocktails are only $12 which is great value however they were underwhelming – I would recommend sticking to beer and wine at this hotel. We were there as a group for dinner on Monday night and the menu had a great selection of pub classics, pizzas, salads and other mains. Monday night is schnitzel house night and for $17 you can get schnitzel chips and salad with all the toppings. I went for the Italiano with was chicken schnitzel topped with eggplant, cheese and tomato and it was delicious. Others in the group had steak, prawns, Caesar salad and smoked chicken pizza. Everyone enjoyed their meals which were quick to come out of the kitchen and all received at the same time. Would most certainly recommend as a pub feed.

The Royal hotel has a bistro serving your typical pub options; steaks, burgers, calamari, pizzas and desserts as well as bruschetta and garlic bread. I’ve been here many times and the food is alright. Tables immediately infront of the bar and food comes fast. Order at the bar. The hotel has a sports bar, pokies, take away and a few bars. What is awesome is the drink menu – $12 cocktails and the mojitos were very nice and very alcoholic. Wines were also a good pour. The crowd is a mix of uni students, older people and some interesting folk in the sports bar. aroundtheclockfoodie.com

Massive dreary space with no personality or style that feels like an anonymous hospital cafeteria, except that the whole time I could smell cigarettes wafting in from the outdoor smoking area. I honestly do not understand how a venue like this remains profitable – it must run solely on the pokies :(The menu is uninspired (such a shame because we all love good modern pub food) and the food disgusting. Every meal tastes the same – greasy, salty, stodgy. I thought a schnitzel would be a sure thing (rather than trusting the kitchen that produced such an weary menu with something like a nice salad) but it was so gross. Dry and it just tasted revolting, maybe the meat was bad. I stopped eating after two mouthfuls. My friend kindly offered to share his salad with me but it was just as offensive.Don’t bother with this place, just go to the Cookhouse down the road. It’s not perfect but it is enjoyable.

I haven’t been here for years so why not today! Some great ($10) cocktails on a school-night and a medium rare steak with mash and salad. Not too bad – pretty good! But lack of air conditioning made it a bit uncomfortable.

Overpriced drinks and poor wine list. It’s cheap plonk they charge you $10 a glass for! Sterile environment with bright and glaring lights which makes it impossibleto relax.. It’s more like an RSL but….With a hotel price – list. Food is decent but again, overpriced for what it is. Wouldn’t go back. Thank God the Cookhouse opened

They have a great $10 and $15 menu with a lot of variety and vegetarian options. I had the vegetable focaccia from the $10 menu, it was a generous size and tasted great. Really good value for only $10. I’ll definitely be going back to try more on the menu.
