Actual rating: 4.5/5Located just outside the station, we went for lunch here on a weekend and got a table immediately. We ordered the prawn and squid ink pasta, corn fritters, hot cakes, iced honey matcha and iced latte. Food was absolutely delicious, my only fault would be that there was a bit too much oil in the pasta but flavour wise was spot on. Service could be improved by taking away empty plates a bit more promptly (they were not busy). Menu was also expensive. However, I still highly recommend this cafe.
Cloud Bowl : Amazing Hot cakes : GreatSquid Ink Spaghetti : Great Salted Caramel Latte : Good Ice Mocha : GreatGreat cafe with a great atmosphere and good service. Ice Mocha was fragrant and sweet (not overly sweet). Loved the refreshing taste of the cloud bowl and the cute little decorations were just adorable. The hot cakes were perfectly fluffy and warm. Squid Ink Spaghetti was also delicious but the garlic was a little on the strong side. Overall a great experience.
Busy corner cafe with rushed but prompt service. The food was delicious with nice coffee too. The Cloud Bowl was refreshing and the hot cakes were nice and fluffy, although a little dry. The salted caramel latte and mocha was okay, not too much coffee flavour, but too overly sweet.
Visited here during midday and had a lovely time. It’s very close to Redfern station and worth a visit if in the area.We had the hotcakes and the linguini and both were nice but we struggled to finish them as we very quickly became full. The drinks were also very nice we will be back to try more items and drinks.
Not many eateries serve sinful fish and chips at 7.30 in the morning, but Gibbons St Cafe is one of those eateries. The fish and chips were generously portioned, with two decent pieces of beautifully battered fish and a mound of crunchy chips and salad. We would have preferred a larger plate for the portion size as the bowl was too small, with the fish sitting atop the chips rendering them soft after a while. But a good plate of food none the less. The Christmas special of Nutella hotcakes were even more sinful, with two large hotcakes festooned with mini cookies of Santa and gingerbread man, and accompanied by not one, but two sauces (chocolate and custard). Dotted around the hotcakes were various fruits to counter the sugar rush, as well as the 2018 de riguer edible flowers that provide colour to the plate. I found the hotcakes a little stodgy, but my partner absolutely loved them. He even dipped my chips into his hotcakes’ chocolate sauce and custard ….Overall, Gibbons St Cafe is a great little suburban cafe that deserves consideration if you’re in the area. It is close to Redfern station and serves well-priced dishes that look and taste good. forkingaroundsydney.blogspot.com
The food here is quite delicious and pretty creative. Its a pretty average wait time and service. Its a little hard to find but overall a pretty great place.
Came here on Saturday morning and the cafe wasnt busy There is a signed outside said seriously good coffee but..well.. I ordered salted caramel latte and its awful.. I think thats the worst salted caramel latte I have ever had..I was thinking of giving the cafe a 3 star rating but when I got the bill, I found the price was really affordable comparing with other cafes in Sydney. So I decided to give it 4 stars. We ordered the big breakfast and added 2 hush browns. Its only $2 for one hush brown. Many cafes charge you $4 for every extra. Everything was good in the big breakfast. I love the beans. Also we ordered mango and passion fruit whip. The portion was large. I asked for extra bowl of granola since the mango mousse was too rich for me. The staff was very kind and accommodated my need. The extra granola only costed me $3.The service was good here. Friendly and nice staff.
