Shakshouka = flavourless, pouched eggs life golf balls, no cumin, possibly made from a tin of tomatoes (not authentic). Pulled Pork Eggs Benedict = dry, over priced, possible off meat taste. Thought I would give this busy looking place a go. It was terrible and over priced. The food was flavourless, the menu has way too many types of cuisines, if they focused on mastering a few dishes maybe it would be better. Never again.
It was a lovely day out and great weather to have a nice brunch. This cafe was buzzing with people enjoying the warm sunshine outside. There is indoor seating but no one was using it. The service was very friendly and quick to serve you. The menus had seen better days though. I had the Eggs Benedict as love poached eggs with hollandaise sauce. This one came with a twist and was served with pulled pork and apple. Although the pork was well cooked, the concept was better than the execution. The pork needed more flavour and the apple didn’t lend any sweetness to the dish as it was poached in champagne. I also had The Retox which had cold drip coffee, bananas, and ice cream. This was a delicious blend and hit the spot. Overall it’s a nice place for a meal but could’ve done with slightly better execution.
40 Degree day, I get the hottest coffee I’ve received all year. To the point the milk is burning my tongue as I drink it. Come on, some common sense. And stop with the creepy people out the front greeting you. Ta.
We decided to go here after one of the better cafes in Redfern has stopped doing breakfast. Worst decision we could have made. It took them 15 minutes to take our orders, the waiter didn’t understand English very well so they got our coffee orders wrong. Food took 45 minutes to come out and it was so average, not fresh and flavourless. $28 for a vegetable burger because they have 10% surcharge on Sundays… are you kidding me? It’s not even a burger it’s a vegetable sandwich that literally comes with 4 wedges. All up we ordered two breakfast meals and two coffees and in total it came to $67. This place is actually a joke and the only reason it gets business is because of the location. The man who owns it is rude and sarcastic and greedy and obviously just wants to make money and does not care about the customers or his employees. Do yourself a favour and never go to this place.
Had the worst food and work experience at Tapeo Restaurant in Redfern. The place is dirty, the food oily and the owner is sarcastic, arrogant and humiliating. He explained his rudeness to be a necessary part of running a business. I say how you treat your staff shows how you value human relationships which is fundamental to any business. Do not waste your time or money there!
I’ve been to Tapeo a few times & I’ve always had a good experience. It’s a great spot for people watching. The locals are various and full of boisterous personalities that make up our iconic Redfern. The wait staff are constantly changing-I’ve never seen the same face twice, but I’ve never been bothered by this too much. The food is usually good & on the larger side, which is great when you’re really hungry. I recently went there for lunch & I think there may have been a change of kitchen staff, which is evident on the plate. If you’re a fan of spinach leaves & not much else, then you’ll love the tuna salad. I think I counted 5 cubed pieces in mine. I was still very hungry afterwards, & walked away feeling like I never wanted to see another spinach leaf again. If you’re running low on supplies-which is what I think might have happened in this case with the tuna-I would much rather they tell me they’re out of that salad & to pick something else, rather than be disappointed & hungry.
Made the effort with a uni friend to come here. A bit of a walk from Redfern Station, but the walk is worth. Was greeted by another younger 1st year uni student, who was happy to have a chat and suggest his recommendations for food choice.Eventually ended with ordering to share the corn & zucchini fritters. The presentation of it was what caught my eye first. But the taste was even better! Note, the serving was quite small for $18.5 (so get your wallet ready). Would go again to try their dinner menu (not many cafes open at night either to my knowledge…).
