I was pretty excited when they got a new menu and the food looks delicious. However they ran out of the only vegan dish they had on a Wednesday and then offered the salad instead…I’d still reccomend the place for great beer and friendly staff but a pretty poor effort in ordering enough food to get you by in the middle of the week.
The dark wood and dark carpets make this an ideal pub for a rainy day although it might feel slightly dingy at the height of summer a fact not helped by the random collection of items they have furnished the pub with; books, toys and various artefacts. There is an outdoor area to the front of the pub but, as this is right on Chalmers Street, the traffic noise is more or less continuous.Nothing particularly adventurous about the selection of beers either Reschs, Pure Blonde and the like. I didnt eat when I visited and was glad not to be hungry after looking at the menu – $20 for a Parmigiana is steep by anyones reckoning . There is a resident dog who seemed friendly enough so they earn an extra half point for that. thernbdiary.com
Woolpack is an awesome local pub around Redfern. It’s such a great place for an after work dinner and drinks. The menu has some great dishes on it, I’ve tried a number of things on the menu and it’s all delicious. I do love the schnitzel and the steak is always good and value for money. The staff are all friendly and the pub has a lively atmosphere which makes it great to hang out with good company and a few drinks.
The Woolpack Hotel is a Redfern institute and has everything you would want from a local pub and more. Recently they have introduced a new tapas menu to compliment the traditional pub fare. Monday’s offer is $12 steaks. On Tuesdays it’s $10 fish and chips and 2 meat raffles and members badge draw. On Wednesdays all the burgers are $10 and on Thursdays they have $12 schnitzels during the day and very good pub trivia of an evening. The staff are great, they believe in the local pub concept of remembering your name and your drinks order. Highly recommended.
The trivia they hold on a Thursday is great and the beer and wine choice is pretty good. The food is a bit hit and miss though, good fish and chips but their specials seem to be leftovers thrown together. The Indian curry I had tasted like a Thai curry and a English stew mixed together.
