Actual rating: 3.55th Earl is a spacious cafe in The Cannery complex, with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Regardless, be prepared to queue on the weekends. I had the beetroot and goats cheese smash on toast. This came with a perfectly poached egg and a jalapeno tequila relish which went well with an added side of smoked salmon. The lamb baked eggs was was a very rich dish – two eggs and a whole lot of shredded lamb meat will keep you full long after dinner time. The prawn linguine also got the thumbs up but the rosti special was deemed to be very average. I enjoyed my skim cappuccino and my friend’s chai tea was made with freshly brewed leaves. Overall, a rockin’ brunch cafe with good food and friendly service.
I guess that for me this was one of those experiences that most bloggers would consider Instagram worthy however taste wise and combination wise beyond my mushrooms, I did not find anything salvageable in the eggs benedict on black/charcoal brioche. I come from a French background, a brioche is a sweet, fluffy piece of bread that feels like a perfect little cloud. It does not need mucking around with, it does not need modifying, it is perfect as it is. This BLACK brioche bun was salty, hard and not at all what a brioche should be. I felt the place tried really hard to be churning out hipster dishes with no substance.
Found another cafe that I really like with both indoor and outdoor/balcony area. The dishes doesnt sound overly fancy on the menu but boy when it arrived, they were delicious! Both the toastie and French toast I would happily order again next time Im back.
