I kept thinking there must be a catch. The English Hong Kong restaurateur who sold The Butcher’s Block chain and now has to come to Australia because of a non-compete clause has teamed up with the Argyle butchers and opened a shop and restaurant in The Cannery which is the most overpriced eating area in Sydney yet they’re selling some of the cheapest American BBQ around. Meat platters start at just $20 for one person and become better value when you have more people, while they’re also doing $30 steak frites nights on Wednesdays. The catch might be that it wasn’t the absolute best BBQ, with the brisket a bit tough and bland and some of the sausage was the same, although it was still some of the best in Sydney and there was pork and chicken and really tasty beans to round it out. Edit: the honeymoon is over and I’m downgrading my rating. I got a platter delivered and it was much smaller than the one I had in-store, despite costing more. There were half as many beef ribs (probably the most expensive component) and a heavy reliance on burnt ends (probably the cheapest component). Even worse, the brisket was quite tough. I don’t know what’s gone wrong here but I would actually prefer that they increase prices rather than cut the quality.
