It’s been awhile since I last had any burek/borek. I think this is Turkish, compare to my favourite Macedonian Burek. So i had the meat borek eat in. Got some additional salad. Portion was quite generous. Got few seats there, quite comfortable.

I don’t know much about borek and this could all be very authentic but I don’t think it compares well to alternatives. The rose borek had soggy pastry and sparse spinach and feta – I recently had some pastizzi with wonderful pastry and packed full of spinach and feta and you could get 3 of those for the price of a quarter rose borek. The water borek (the pastry is boiled or something like that) was the most interesting – really tasty and an unusual texture. The pogaca was a harder pastry with a bit of cheese inside – cheaper than the borek but still worse value than a pastizzi. Their delivery is also bad – the first time they cancelled it because they’d accepted the order without checking stock, the second time they forgot part of the order, plus their online menu descriptions imply that water borek and pogaca include meat but they only had cheese and a bit of spinach (I think they have different types in store but delivery doesn’t give you the option to choose).

Rose Borek a small take away shop on Gardeners Rd Rosebery specialising in Turkish style Borek(pastry a filling). There are also a couple of tables if you want to dine in. Simple cheap and delicious. You can order large family size boreks or individual portions. They have savoury and sweet options. So far I have only had savoury. The beef, cheese and spinach all very tasty. A bargain gem. aroundtheclockfoodie.com

Wonderful, delicious borek for only $5! Massive family size rose borek is only $20. The pastry is flaky and chewy in all the right places and the fillings generous and tasty. I have tried the meat, potato, spinach/cheese and cheese/parsley water borek and all are equally scrumptious. Hot boreks come with a cute litte side of olives, tomato and cucumber. There are also cakes, warm simit and coffee on offer. This charming authentic one man operation is a great addition to the Rosebery food scene.
