Enya Japanese, Ruschutters Bay. A friend of mine lives in Potts Point and commented that Kylie Kwong had reviewed this small little Japanese place in Rushcutters Bay (twice might I add). She is a master of Asian cuisine, so gotta trust her selections! It’s a little hole in the wall type joint and we made a trip on a quiet Thursday night. Now, we eat about as much Japanese as there are Sushi trains in a Westfield shopping centre, so when we read the Menu, it looked pretty common Japanese. We were wrong. It was, as Kylie Kwong said, exquisite. A party of three, we selected a variety of options to share amongst us. Now, some things were your pretty run of the mill Japanese selections like Agedashi Tofu, Edamame and Sashimi, but I’m very sure it was handmade silken tofu and the freshest of tuna and salmon sashimi one could ask for. Here’s where the initiated foodie makes her arrival. I have continually said no to eating fresh tuna, once I gave it a go, and hated it, but thought – in my newfound approach I’d try it. Boy, it was unreal! Very high quality seafood on offer at this place. Now at first arrival, I thought the waitress had a tad RBF (if you don’t know this phrase, put it through urban dictionary, mum). My defensive mechanism of over politeness and probing questions about Japan and some forthcoming travels, I had a new best friend – what a lovely lady – offering different sauces with each dish, checking in every five minutes and filling up the water like the waiters at Tetsuyas, one could forget they weren’t actually there. Anyway the main dishes of a steamed salmon with cabbage weren’t the ordinary type experienced at a regular Japanese, rather a delicate addition to the menu. The highlight of the evening was their hot pot – wagyu (the real stuff), egg, tofu, veggies and a beautiful sauce – I’d order this again in a heartbeat. Now the menu options weren’t overly small or expensive and it was roughly a $30 split each, it’s worth every cent. I’ll return, to try some other options, learn from Japanese phrases from their wall art and feel at home with the welcoming staff. Good one Enya, certainly ‘sailed away’ with a handful of free lollipops for the road, a full stomach and a pleasurable evening. aroundtheclockfoodie.com
Bad night?. Maybe just a bad night in the Kitchen or we chose badly. Usually love the food here but tonight the chicken curry was avg with very little chicken ($17 with rice, which is steep for what we got!). The Sashimi Taco shell wasn’t very crispy/fresh. The Prawn Shu Mai was like processed prawn meat. Nice people and very popular, but i won’t be rushing back.14 Nov, 2013Fantastic food and service. Great find
Amazing Japanese! My favourite place to go and excellent service!
I absolutely adored this sweet little restaurant. The food was delicious, staff beautifully friendly and helpful, and meals were so cheap. I cannot more highly recommend it. Cant wait to return.
I love everything about this place. A definite must try for locals and tourists.
Great service, reasonable price, incredible good. Genuine, welcoming atmosphere with a wide selection of authentic dishes.
Enya restaurant. Genuine food, fantastic service, good price! Don’ t avoid it just because it looks quite basic, this place is really a good experience and i hope it will not change when the two guys who run it they will become more popular, because i m sure they will be popular with such a great food!
