We love love looove the dumplings here! Nooo idea why there aren’t lines piling up outside this place —the food was awesome! We first popped by last week on a complete whim and fell in love with the food. The steamed pork and chives are so flavourful and were perfectly steamed. There’s this wonderful “home-cooked” vibe in the food where it feels like you’ve popped by some random Aunty’s house and she’s gone and made you dumplings. They have this knack with fried dumplings and fried pork baos for getting the outside super crispy and leaving the insides juicy. It’s also one of the few Chinese places in Sydney that do “zhong” as well (steamed glutenous rice with marinated pork and salted egg yolk)! Not sure what the other lady was harping on about. The dumplings here are super reasonably priced and the quality is well worth that $1. You’ll pay heaps more for worse dumplings in a lot of the more “popular” joints.
I really wanted to like this place because the food was quite alright, but dishonesty is what kills a business so I’m just going to say it here. I had lunch here a couple of days ago. Ordered a serve of pork and chive dumplings, which was $12 according to their menu. But the lady at the counter charged $13 when i went to pay. I asked her why was it more than what was displayed on the menu, she said because chives were more expensive lately, so they charged the extra $1. I told her she had to tell customers in the beginning, not sneakily charged it without even telling me when I was paying. $1 is not a big sum, but it’s not the price I expected to pay. I want to support local businesses, but not dishonest businesses like this.
