This hidden local gem served the freshest and most delicious oysters I’ve ever had! Jim was shucking our oysters as we ordered! We ordered a dozen raw oysters, half a dozen mornay oysters and half a dozen kilpatrick oysters. This was served with lemon, pepper and Tabasco. All of the oysters were devoured instantly. There’s a few tables and seats out the back where you overlook the river and see the freshly caught oysters. I highly recommend this place if you’re a lover of fresh oysters.
For lovers of Oysters or those who are interested in family history or those who are interested in Australian championships or for those that want to have some fun and show their skills, or just have a go at shucking some oysters – Jim Wilds’ Oysters ticks all of these boxes. This amazing place, family owned and established in 1979 is located on the tranquil foreshore of the Crookhaven River. As we walked up to where our demonstration of shucking oysters was to take place, we noticed the copious amounts of oyster shells on the ground. This place certainly goes through a lot of oysters! You can also purchase Greenwell Point oysters or Pacific oysters – Oh lovely!
One of the nicest discoveries of the Shoalhaven South Coast region are the delicious oysters and friendly locals. You may want to consider visiting Jim’s Wild Oysters (call beforehand to make sure of opening hours) on your way to the South Coast Food and Wine Festival 14-15 September 2019. Jim’s Wild Oysters is actually an exclusive farm that sells oysters only through their own shop and through to local restaurants. I am introduced to Jim’s Wild Oysters thanks to Destination NSW.
Fun fact; Jim once held the world oyster shocking record 30 oysters 2 and 34 seconds! How amazing is that! Whilst his record might have been overtaken, his oysters are still being sold and at such a high quality. This is a family business and we loved this operation. Their oysters certainly are their passion. As mentioned, Jim Once held the oyster shucking world record. His passion has been passed on to his daughter Sally who has taken on this pearl of a business. She absolutely loves the profession.
