Walking into Mrs. Top is like walking into your grandmother’s house. If your grandmother is a really great cook and invites lots of other strangers over.
Hidden Gem in Milton. Vanessa & Anatolij moved here from Sydney some years ago after many years of running the famous Mrs Top at Marrickville. They’re only open a few nights of the week & are usually booked out months in advance (for both dinner & accomodation – they have 4 absolutely lovely rooms for overnight B&B guests). The menu is incredibly extensive for such a small restaurant & the place buzzes with a pleasant hum of convivial talk overlaid by the delicious aromas emanating from the small kitchen adjacent to the dining area – how Anatolij produces such excellent & varied fare from such a small kitchen is both a delight & a mystery. For dinner we had steamed large king prawns stuffed w/scallop, squid; seafood ragout; slow cooked duck; pork belly (not a skerrick of fat); homemade icecreams & sorbet; pannacotta – yummy & stunning all! Washed down w/96 PJ Belle Epoque; 02 Jim Barry Riesling; 83 Grange & 96 Marsh Estate Semillon Sauterne. Thanks Vanessa & Anatolij for such a terrific experience & being such fabulous hosts – we will return!
