My partner and I went to this place for our first anniversary dinner after a day of sightseeing around Berry. We ordered kilpatrick oysters for entree. Eye fillet with vegetables for main. I asked mine to be medium and my partner asked for medium rare. When the main was served – my bacon that wraps around the eye fillet was burnt. I am not sure if it is normally like that if I have my eye fillet cook to medium. My partner’s were a bit burnt too. The jus has burnt taste to it. Obviously from the bacon. We paid approx $80 dollars for three meals. Oysters was okayish. 🙁 we wont be coming back

The food was awful! It took ages to arrive, was undercooked and flavour less. The wine was also off. Terrible dining experience. The staff couldn’t seem to care less, when we enquired about our food, they said the courtyard was full which was causing the delay. There was one table of people who had already eaten.

As a local this is a decent pub but I’m always disappointed with the restaurant staff. Not once have I had friendly service. Every time I’m met with attitude. Hire new staff already! Someone that actually enjoys their job and can manage a smile. The food is average. Go elsewhere.

We stopped in here for dinner looking for a nice ambience and good food. We didn’t get either. The main dining area is a mish mash of long tables that were left uncleaned ( ours had broken glass and a bowl full of some sort of brown sauce topped with a melting ice cream cone). The calamari was tasteless. The tapas plate was just a pile of soggy veggies. And the Sirloin steak was tough when cooked to Medium. Prices ranged around $30 for a main. It’s pub food. Nothing more.

Good service and reasonable atmosphere, but overall the prices did not justify the quality of the food. The food took a long time to come out, the salt and pepper squid was a little tough and tasteless, and finally the steak was tasty but tough (cooked medium).

The chef has obviously changed since the previous reviews because the kitchen here is no longer Asian. It’s now great pub grub, generous portions of tasty food

Avoid the grief of going here. I live locally and I have been to the Berry pub before numerous times and its generally been pretty good. Not too expensive, and reasonably good food – some dishes better than others. Last night I ordered the salt and pepper squid with green mango salsa and my wife ordered a pizza. My wife’s pizza was ok. She didn’t complain. My salt and pepper squid was mediocre to say the least. I would be surprised if the green mango salsa had even had a mango walk by it at some time in its life! Salt and pepper squid, when good should have a crispy exterior that provides a crunch and should be tender. Normally it is cut into rings (or certainly in the restaurants where I have had it in the past, like the Marigold in China Town in Sydney. This squid looked like it had been put in a light batter of some kind and then fried in oil that wasn’t hot enough. There was no crunch. It had not been cut into rings, so it was presented in long tubes, that in the light of the restaurant looked grey and unappetizing. It was chewy and didn’t taste of salt and pepper. I would probably not have sent it back if it hadn’t been for the price – just under $30. I believe for that kind of money you should expect a first class meal. This was anything but, so I then ordered a steak instead figuring that it would be hard to screw that up. By the time the steak arrived my wife had finished her pizza. I took one bite of the steak. It was as tough as old boot leather. It was cooked fine, but it was clearly an inferior cut of meat. I sent the steak back and paid for my wife’s meal and left the restaurant. The waitress was great and most conciliatory. But that isn’t good enough. The meal was absolutely dreadful. It put me into a really foul mood and as a result i urge you to avoid this place until they change chefs. Avoid the grief. I hope they improve. Previously I have had really good soft shell crab there and other dishes that have been pretty good. If you want to go somewhere good, go to the Blue Swimmer in Geroa.
